two men enter, two men leave

Anyway, Mel's picture was designed to depict Christ's suffering.

As are many of Gibson's film. Minus Christ, of course. If I remember correctly, Mel is TORTURED in each of the following:

Payback
Lethal Weapon
Conspiracy Theory
Braveheart

I guess we can add Passion to the list . . .

Yes, I know. I did say ONE of the definitions. Anyway, Mel's picture was designed to depict Christ's suffering. Of course I don't discount his compassion.

Hmmm...I saw more suffering from those that loved him and betrayed him, than Jesus's suffering. I saw the brutality he was subjected to, but the costly suffering was done by those that loved him. This was the first Jesus movie that - to me - accurately portrayed Pilate position & Mary as a mother.

It's like this...why do we cry when a loved one dies? Aren't they better off? We cry because we miss them and long for them. It's the personal hurt/loss we feel that saddens us.

Don't forget The Patriot and Man without a Face...

The Ole Catholic guilt trip syndrome. :) Most movies include a victim/hero...

Interesting. I didn't see these films. Do they include scenes of explicit torture? If so, I may have AMERICAN FILM JOURNAL's next great article . . .

Two of his sons were killed in front of him by British soldiers, his house was burned, his son's bride to be was burned to death in a church.

Man without a Face I *think* he was astrocized and persecuted as a molester because he was mentoring a young boy and Mel's face was mangled by a fire.

Don't forget "Signs!" He was an ex-priest that had lost his faith when his wife died.

In "Lethal Weapon" he's a cop whose wife has died and he's teetering on the edge of cuckoo.

And in "Mad Max" his wife gets killed by outlaw bikers.

I didn't see "Henry V".
