BREAKING Ty Declaring for NFL Draft

Did you watch the video of the press conference? He just did not seem particularly thrilled. Could be reading it wrong but it definitely seemed very muted for him and his personality. Also, I think I saw Ty had never talked to McVay before allegedly.

1) He doesn’t want to make the same mistake that McCarthy and the Packers did with drafting Love

2) McVay has less of a guarantee of being the Rams coach when Ty takes over than the GM and the brain trust over him. It really doesn’t matter what McVay thinks with a future star pick for an organization.

3) his response seemed more typical than atypical all things considered for a pick outside of the Top 10.

Ofcourse Coach Cowher gives some sanity to the debate:

1) He said McVay was tempering expectations for Ty and was showing him that he still had to prove his spot whether he was the 1st pick or the 200th pick. He said that is a sign of an honest coach

2) He brought up the fact that the Steelers were surprised Roethlisberger was still available at their pick in 2004 and picked him without consulting Tommy Maddox

3) Said Tommy Maddox came in his office the next day and complained about it and said how hurt he was about it. When he finished Cowher asked “are you done? Because I don’t owe you an explanation about it or anyone an explanation about it outside of Mr Rooney. It sounds like you are insecure about your spot on the roster and I made the right pick for this organization”

Basically he was saying that this is a business and too many guys are led to believe that they are irreplaceable to the organization because of what they did this year or that. And that there too many many guys that get drafted in the first round that get too caught up in the wild sense of excitement that comes with draft night exposure that they forget about having to work at being the 1% of the sport. Basically he was saying McVay handled it masterfully by giving Ty his moment while setting a standard of expectations and too many coaches are like Army recruiters in promising them the moon without telling them that there is a job expectation after you sign the dotted line
