Sounds like bad management. You shouldn't lose money. If you aren't pushing the product before spoilage, lower the prices and still profit.
It is just accounting shenanigans, if you put half of the security budget under "alcohol sales expenses".

No way you actually lose money on beer sales unless you make it such a pain in the ... to buy one that no one wants to do it.

People have been successfully smuggling their own alcohol into the games for years. Why in the world are they going to then turn around and buy something that has probably been marked up exponentially?

Yep. Most people at college football games people tailgate and do all their drinking then and/or smuggle it in.
Right, because that was the only way to drink before. If there is alcohol available for sale, most adults are not going to bother with stuffing a flask down their shorts and then hiding under a seat to mix it when they can just purchase it out in the open.

Not if they're having to spend a lot more money on it.

I sneak in a bottle of Coke or water or some other drink even if it's sold in the stadium to avoid paying triple the cost.

I went to a Jets game up here in 2011 and for a small pepsi it was almost under 5 bucks, I made sure to get no ice with that one!

People will pay for convenience, but there is a limit.
Also, if the bathroom situation is a disaster, then I will definitely not be drinking a lot at the stadium.

They knew that they were going to lose money...

“Going into the first season, we knew it wasn’t going to be profitable,” said associate athletic director Tom McGinnis. The list of startup expenses that cut into the school’s beer profits ranged from extra security to $12,000 in plants to screen the A gate beer kiosk from the view of visitors to the Tribal Nations Plaza.

The university brought in a dozen extra campus police officers, 10 more ushers and two security supervisors to keep tabs on the football crowds once the alcohol started flowing. The extra manpower cost almost $50,000, but police incidents actually went down at the stadium, compared to the previous dry season.
I find that second paragraph interesting. Maybe it went down because everyone was drinking beer instead of hard liquor, which doesn't get you quite as drunk as fast.

True dat.

You don't hire the accountant who says, "Two plus two equals four."

You hire the one who asks, "How much do you want two plus two to be?"

But you don't drink beer in the cold
Sorry for the "dislike." It wasn't meant as a mean-spirited dislike, more of a fun one. If you don't like drinking beer when it's cold, you may need to try drinking different beers. Try a good Russian Imperial Stout the next time it's chilly out. Of course, I can even enjoy a good IPA in the dead of winter, but a strong stout or barleywine (few good ones) served at about 55 degrees is great on a cold day. Although mulled wine trumps all!
