can somebody please explain to me how in the world UAB reeled in these two receivers? especially white.. i mean they didnt have to come to bama... but they both had some pretty nice offers besides UAB for god sakes... ju$t dont get it?

Jared White had some off the field troubles and most schools backed away from him. Courtney Smith never had a firm offer from Bama.

My understanding is that Smith only had a conditional offer if our other prospects fell through. We got what we needed with Stover and McCoy. EA will eventually be a WR and anything else we get (Hawthorne) would be a bonus. Once we got McCoy to commit, the offer to Smith got dropped.
As for White, I'm not sure. I'm assuming he wanted to stay close to home. That's my only guess for him not choosing LSU which was previously his favorite. I've also heard that Bama and the Barn quit recruiting him because of off the field troubles. This is only my opinion though from what I have heard and seen on these message boards. I'd love to have some more insight into why White signed with UAB though . . .

Seems like I read somewhere that White didn't make high enough on SAT and need to take it again. I am not sure if it even said what he made but I doubt it.
White had some serious off-the-field issues... I remember reading an article last November or so that said that no coach had made any recruiting contact whatsoever with him in over a month. I'm not sure any major school really wanted any part of this kid.
