More than 40 percent of UA’s 7,559-member freshman class scored 30 or higher on the ACT, up from last year’s record 36 percent. In all, UA enrolled 37,665 students this fall, up from 37,100 in fall 2015.
Glad I didn't apply in the last couple of years.

UA has quietly upped its game with academic scholarships offers over the past decade. To be frank, that generosity was the reason I'm an alumnus.

Dr Witt started this a while back and has really helped raise the standard. UA was a good school when I attended in the early 90's - it's a far better school today.

Dr. Witt really changed the direction of the university. I don't know if this has continued, but they used to offer full scholarships (tuition + housing) to National Merit Scholars. As a result, UA had among the top recruitment in the nation.

It's amazing to me the things that haven't changed since I was there in the early 70's. We knew Alabama was a good school, but we really didn't have much in the way of comparison tools to review schools. You mailed a request for information to a school and they mailed you their information, and you decided. Today, we know Bama's a better overall school because of all the rankings and metrics. We knew Alabama had a good business school back then (and it still is) so I went there. Not much thought went into it. My instructions were "Git a job, boy, figure out some kind of scholarship, and enroll in ROTC. That's all money."
The quad looks the same as back then and so do the buildings around it. The growth of dorms and academic buildings on the periphery of campus really showcase the school's development. Although the enrollment has more than tripled the crowds on football game days "feel" very similar even though I know a LOT more people are on campus and in the stadium.
Probably the one thing that makes me feel that Bama hasn't changed much is the fact that the girls are still the same age as when I was there. Common sense would tell you the boys haven't aged either, but to tell you the truth I never paid much attention to them.
