Utes fans congratulating each other on NC

The reason that I used 35th is because that is Bama's SoS this year after last night's game. Utah ended the season at #32.

No one would question whether or not Bama would deserve to be #1 this year if we were undefeated...

When will those Mountain Apes get it through their thick heads. The utes need to get a clue. I can only say if Utah were Number #1 in reality and the Tide #2 the outcome would have been much different. The players did not want Sugar they wanted Gold and missed out. Sad they felt that way but its the truth.

Utah can go and get themselves a People's Choice Ring like the Barn did. Then their QB can put his People's Ring on Ebay also. :biggrin:

Florida is National Champions whether the TWO UTES like it or not.

I also want to commend you for your taking the high road in this discussion.
A long time ago, we had the same type controversy. It was not the only reason, but an a good excuse for the powers that be to hide the real reasons, to exclude us in the National Championship in 1966 because our playing a schedule that was somewhat light out of conference games. So, I for one feel your pain.
I suspect that in these days and times, you have to grow in the pecking order and establish yourselves over the years. I think the Utes are on their way of doing that, so be patient. Keep doing the things your doing so that you can prove to the nation that Utah is not an anomaly, and it will happen.

A good post, but think it through. The MNC game is a popularity contest. It isn't won by having a history of playing the best. If it was, we would have won the MNC in 1966 (or a few other times). We had just won back to back MNCs in '64 and '65 and were still not worthy. We lost the popularity contest.

Utah is forced to hope that some day they are seen as "worthy", and a tougher schedule will not be enough if the media has to choose between them and a more popular team at the time...

Actually, I was referring to the Buddy Teevens era. Around the mid to late 80's and early 90's. There had been behind the door meetings about Tulane coming back into the SEC. They thought by going ahead and scheduling a lot of SEC teams that they would help their cause. The interest just wasn't strong enough from the SEC.

I would have to go back and look at their schedules. It was before Ark and SC came into the league.

Speaking of the old Tulane-Ga Tech days in the SEC, I believe Tech still has more SEC Titles than Auburn.

I was alluding to the ute's desire for a NC. It will never happen as long as they're not in a BCS conference. Why is that hard to understand?

Did you not read the part when I stated that there were others reasons involved that most likely left us without a championship?
I agree that todays polling is a popularity contest. I am merely stating that if they keep doing the things they are doing, they will become popular. Beating the Crimson Tide was a step in the right direction for the Utes.

By the way, my girlfriend is from Wayne, New Jersey. She is pretty feisty!!

2) Never agrue with a fool. Someone passing by may not know the difference.

Pull a cork, pour a glass and forget about saving Utah.

I agree. I guess that I am just disgusted with the notion that MNCs are popularity contests and that so many are just fine with that. I am not defending Utah as much as I am trying to make people see the absurdity of it. Team A can win a MNC with a SoS of X, but Team B cannot, even with a better SoS just because they are not popular enough. Absurd.

I'd think they would be doing rather well these days . Basketball has been good to Utah as well . Don't know though :conf3:

Yep but , it's after the fact - too little , too late and becoming popular isn't good enough at this time and won't be in the immediate future either . Something similar during back to back regular seasons or 3 years out of 4 would make a huge difference for their program though . It's the only way in which I could see Utah reaching the next level - national credibility and respect with eventual entry into a BCS conference along with what comes with it - a legitimate chance at playing for a BCS title . I think they'd be a hell of a lot better in football and basketball for a conference like the B12 than say .... Baylor . JOMO :)

I would like to take the opportunity to chime in and make a statement that we all can agree upon. WE NEED A PLAYOFF!!! It is the logical way to end this sort of debate. And we would have one if it were not for the "selective greed" of the BCS schools to paraphrase Diana Nyad.
 
When having the best team on the field is not enough to win a national championship. When one must first build up national "credibility". Then college football has become like gymnastics or ice skating - where one person can perform better than anyone else on the ice or mats and walk away without a medal while those with "credibility" walk away with the gold, even with fall after fall.

The governing bodies pretend to give the youngsters a shot at gold by "allowing" them to compete, but they are involved in a competition that has already been decided. No, they don't know who is going to win the Gold, but they know who will be in the hunt for it at the end - and the youngsters are not on that list. The only prayer for these youngsters - the complete collapse of those with "credibility" - and sometimes even that isn't enough.

Ahh, college football. The spirit of open competition. Ummm, not so much...
