I did this quite by accident while getting coffee at work, but it was most enjoyable ...

When asked about the LSU loss, I told two Auburn guys and a Tenn guy that it was the most crushing home defeat since the 1975 loss to Missouri.

I actually believe that that is true (at least for me).

What I did not expect was for them to be incensed.
*chuckle*

"But, but but," they stammered. "That can't be! 28-27. 28-27!"
And the Tenn fan reminded me of the '95 Bama-UT game.

I told them that while last year's Iron Bowl loss was disappointing, the season was overwith anyway. After all, if we don't have a shot at a title, the season is effectively a series of exhibition games.

Just having a little fun with my coworkers.

yep - do that all the time to the in-laws (barners) whenever they start yapping. bottom line is we define success by SEC and National titles and they define success as how they compare to us. Especially for them I remind them that TN is our #1 rival and the only victory that we've ever celebrated with cigars in the locker room...

I have tried to explain to several Barners that as long as they measure everything by the way they perform against UA, they will always be #2, pointing out that their so called "moments of glory" all involve Alabama, where ours invlove PSU, TN, Miami, Texas, ND and other national programs. More Barners post the score from last year's game with UA than the score of their win over Oregon when they blog or comment on other sites. Yet it makes them angry if you refer to them as "little brother". As long as they measure everything they do against UA and our successes and program, they will always be second in Alabama.

Make no mistake. Every team on Bama's schedule routinely measures it's own status, and is likewise measured by others, on how they play against Bama.
Bottom line, measuring up to the Crimson Tide is the ultimate goal of every college football team in America.

28-27, 28-27! I can just hear that in a whiny voice. Bunch of babies.

You should be married to one! Just kidding. If she was one of those types, I'd take her straight to the courthouse and start looking for a Bama replacement.
LOL, I'd love for my wife to have a rooting interest in football...but not at that price!

Re: Want to Annoy the "I Hate Bammers" Crowd?

I think one could argue this was one of the most devastating losses in Alabama history. For me, it felt like the most devastating because it was like watching the National Championship, Heisman, and SEC Championship go down the drain at once. It has been a rare occurence that a single Alabama game had such huge implications both for the SEC Championship and the National Championship, but even rarer that it features a valid Heisman candidate at Alabama. Alabama could have, and should have won that game and ultimately that is why it hurt so much. If you get beat by the better team, that is one thing. If you simply get outplayed that is another, but to lose a game of that importance in that matter just plain hurts. Sure, the Auburn game hurt to in some of the same manner, but a true Alabama fan measures Alabama by Alabamas success, not Auburns. Of course Alabama losing a shot at a NC hurts more than Auburn winning one.

However, there was a bright side to this. With Trent still second in the Heisman race, and Alabama still third in the BCS rankings, hope springs enternal. And under those circumstances, an Auburn loss this year (not that I am counting on one) would hurt more than one last year. They might play for pride, but Alabama plays for championships.

Agree on all points. keep in mind if Luck stinks it up against Oregon or loses to the Ducks and Trent runs wild on all 3 remaining games, Trent is very much in the thick of things for the Heisman.

I agree, though I wasn't around in '75. This LSU game is sticking to me because we were the better team.

I gotta say that 28-27 was the worst loss in my memory. Not to give any credit to the Barn, but the way we manhandled the cheaters for the first half, the terrible luck with Ingram having the ball punched out and scoot for 45 yards out of the back of the endzone, and Richardson not getting it done down at the goal line make it the most painful I can remember. I wasn't around in the 70's of course. But the loss last saturday ranks second in my mind. We outplayed the opposition in both games.
