We get the late game again

Worst New Year's Eve EVER was 1973. FWIW, Bama is 2-2-1 All Time on 12/31. With wins over PSU in 1975 and UNC in 1993. Losses to ND in 1973 and Minnesota in 2004. Tied Oklahoma in 1970.

My wife isn't a football fan so sitting in front of the television on NYE would be a proceed with caution proposition. :) 1973, I remember it too well.

I'm trying to find a team seating chart for the game and not having any luck. I sat on the Bama side in the Wisconsin game and want to make sure I'm on the right side for this game and not in a sea of green. Any information to help would be much appreciated. Roll Tide!

I would assume that we are home team so pressbox side.

That Minnesota game was sooo frustrating. I wanted so badly for us to end the season with a win. The Gophers just couldn't be stopped on the ground. And we were completely inept at QB.

The upper deck sections 402-424 are on the side listed as Cowboys. Since we are the higher seed and should be the home team that should be the Bama side.

Thank the Rose Bowl, Pac 12/Big Ten, and the CFP. The Rose Bowl/Big Ten/Pac 12 refused to move its game from its traditional slot at 3 EST on New Year's Day. Since it was not in the semi-final rotation this year, they had to move the semis to New Years Eve in order to accommodate the Rose Bowl/Big Ten/Pac 12. Once again, they hold up the rest of the college football world for their "tradition."

I hate the 12/31 games, but I'm in the Rose Bowl camp with their decision. No different than when Bama told them where they could stick their TV schedule when they attempted to dictate the kickoff times for Homecoming games.

They just guaranteed I won't see much if any of the game. And, I suspect the ratings will drop off the closer the game gets to midnight. 8 pm (ET) works okay for Central Time zone to the West coast, but they just lost much of the Eastern seaboard.

The game isn't scheduled to kick off until after 8:30 Eastern. The Eastern time zone is the most heavily populated time zone in the country, and it isn't close. If the game isn't a nail biter, the ratings will disappear. Stupid scheduling, to say the least.

I dont know if anybody else noticed but ESPN put up a Cotton Bowl pic not long after the top 4 reveal that showed it being an 8PM game. Either they new before it was officially announced or the graphic(s) was made in advance and they inadvertently showed that one.

I'm a football fan first, and I will also be working all night from home that night, so the schedule doesn't bother me. As I suspect it doesn't bother most die hard fans. But they make their ad money from all of the casual fans that tune in. I suspect those will mostly not be watching, but we'll see.

As for the Rose Bowl and all that, I don't know why they didn't just have one playoff game start at 12, and the other playoff game start late after the Rose Bowl, all on 1/1. Or, play the playoffs on 1/2. But no, they couldn't do that, because they spent all of that time hyping up "taking over the New Year on 12/31 and 1/1." It's all absurd, but what do I care? They will be on tv and I'll be watching. They could play the games on Christmas Day and I'd probably find a way to watch them. Heck, I always used to watch the Blue vs. Gray all star game on Christmas Day before it went defunct.

My understanding is that the Sugar Bowl is also contracted on New Year's Day only, so the committee is obligated to place that game on 1/1 after the Rose Bowl. By doing this, it all but eliminates the possibility of the semi-finals being on 1/1 except when those two games are the host sites. They don't want to go away from the 3-3 format because you would have New Year's Six games being played simultaneously. I'm just glad we got the late game so I don't have to miss the game at work.

You're right, the Sugar Bowl got in on it too. It was never that way, traditionally, for the Sugar Bowl. It has been played on New Year's Eve in the past. But with the new playoff format, they wanted to establish that.

As I said, it doesn't bother me terribly. But I do think the ratings will suffer on both days. After the semi-finals are played on 12/31, the bowls on 1/1 will be sort of anticlimactic IMO.

Another advantage of living in Hawaii, weather, tropical beauty and an afternoon game.

Now that I'm officially retired for the second time, Late nite no longer bothers me.
It's a totally different atmosphere than playing the morning game.
LSU might have been right with all their night games.
