My problem is fighting the "Fourth Quarter Dose--Off", especially since the TV game time will be 8:30 EST, not 8:00...my New Years Eve beverages will consist of a bunch of coffee. Looking forward to the broadcast crew, though.
Worst New Year's Eve EVER was 1973. FWIW, Bama is 2-2-1 All Time on 12/31. With wins over PSU in 1975 and UNC in 1993. Losses to ND in 1973 and Minnesota in 2004. Tied Oklahoma in 1970.
I'm trying to find a team seating chart for the game and not having any luck. I sat on the Bama side in the Wisconsin game and want to make sure I'm on the right side for this game and not in a sea of green. Any information to help would be much appreciated. Roll Tide!

Thank the Rose Bowl, Pac 12/Big Ten, and the CFP. The Rose Bowl/Big Ten/Pac 12 refused to move its game from its traditional slot at 3 EST on New Year's Day. Since it was not in the semi-final rotation this year, they had to move the semis to New Years Eve in order to accommodate the Rose Bowl/Big Ten/Pac 12. Once again, they hold up the rest of the college football world for their "tradition."
They just guaranteed I won't see much if any of the game. And, I suspect the ratings will drop off the closer the game gets to midnight. 8 pm (ET) works okay for Central Time zone to the West coast, but they just lost much of the Eastern seaboard.
I hate the 12/31 games, but I'm in the Rose Bowl camp with their decision. No different than when Bama told them where they could stick their TV schedule when they attempted to dictate the kickoff times for Homecoming games.
As for the Rose Bowl and all that, I don't know why they didn't just have one playoff game start at 12, and the other playoff game start late after the Rose Bowl, all on 1/1. Or, play the playoffs on 1/2. But no, they couldn't do that, because they spent all of that time hyping up "taking over the New Year on 12/31 and 1/1." It's all absurd, but what do I care? They will be on tv and I'll be watching. They could play the games on Christmas Day and I'd probably find a way to watch them. Heck, I always used to watch the Blue vs. Gray all star game on Christmas Day before it went defunct.
My understanding is that the Sugar Bowl is also contracted on New Year's Day only, so the committee is obligated to place that game on 1/1 after the Rose Bowl. By doing this, it all but eliminates the possibility of the semi-finals being on 1/1 except when those two games are the host sites. They don't want to go away from the 3-3 format because you would have New Year's Six games being played simultaneously. I'm just glad we got the late game so I don't have to miss the game at work.
You're right, the Sugar Bowl got in on it too. It was never that way, traditionally, for the Sugar Bowl. It has been played on New Year's Eve in the past. But with the new playoff format, they wanted to establish that.
As I said, it doesn't bother me terribly. But I do think the ratings will suffer on both days. After the semi-finals are played on 12/31, the bowls on 1/1 will be sort of anticlimactic IMO.
Personally..I enjoy night games better myself, there's no better way to end a day, than with another Bama victory that propels us to the NC Game..
