The LSU punt/kick-off returns. Everytime we kickoff I hold my breath and with them having Skyler Green could present more of a problem. Any thoughts?

I agree completely. Bama's special teams won't be able to contain Skyler if they kick to him every time. Bama needs to limit his touches in the return game to keep him from being a huge factor. RTR.

The Rugby Punts Won't Work

I hope you guys try the rugby punt. Our guys have been preparing for that. If properly defensed, that style of punting is dangerous for three reasons. One is that your punter is taking an extra second-and-a-half to kick the ball on a lower trajectory, thereby making a block more possible. Second is, and I'm not sure, but I think this is correct -- when the punter starts to run like that, he removes himself from the protection of a roughing call, so that you plow into him, roughing is not called -- it's like when a QB takes off, he loses some of the enforcement protections he's usually given. The third is that we'll probably station a second guy on the sideline to fair catch those punts -- meaning that you'll get zero roll that is usually characteristic of those types of punts. In a game of field position, this will be huge.

Trust me -- we've seen rugby punts all year now from teams that don't want to kick to Skyler. We've prepared for it. When you see what I've written here come to fruition on the field, you'll be shocked.

On the other hand...

Schatz' punts have been short this year avg about 31-32 yards a punt. That gives our guys the ability to get down the field. If, IF...we stay in our lanes it is a wash.

Has anyone ever seen this Bama team use a "rugby punt?" That's like saying "You better not use that quick kick on 3rd down." Uh, okay, we won't.

Everybody we play seems to whip it out for the first time. Maybe you don't. You're foolish to kick to Skyler. Trying to simply angle every punt for the sideline is exceedingly difficult with little margin for error. Field position in this game will be huge.

If this game ends up being a tight defensive struggle, I believe the kicking game could be the difference. I have been more concerned over Skyler Green than our O-line issues. One missed tackle on a punt or kickoff and this guy can score or flip the field position in a heartbeat. Our coverage teams will really have to play bring their A-game and try to corral him up.

The "rugby punt" makes no sense for BAMA. There are too many risks involved. Besides, have we ever done that? We will just angle kick the ball towards the sideline & let Skyler decide what he wants to do. A) Catch it near the sideline & get hit, or B) Let it go out of bounds. Personally, I believe he will be trying to break one & we will force a fumble somewhere in this game that will be a turning point.
