ESPN is dumb and haven't read anything from rivals.com or scout.com all of which say he's already talked to our coaches and commited...I'd trust the people who talk to the recruits on a regular basis over ESPN.

Former Port Barre All-State defensive back Chris Keys, who committed to LSU on March 9, said that he is now undecided and will make official visits to Alabama and LSU in January.

"Those are my top two," Keys said. "I'm not going to make a decision until after making those visits. A lot of it will have to do with my family members. After that I'll know for sure."

Well they did have a quote from him afterall....

Well, here's my 2 cents:

His grandfather said, "you made a commitment to Nick Saban, and you're going to keep it....unless he leaves." He left and grandpaw said you can go to Bama or LSU, whichever you choose. Keys called the staff and gave a verbal. I don't think grandpaw is going to let him switch again.

Besides, his Bama official is the week before his LSU official. If he's thoroughly impressed-- which he will be-- the staff probably will push him again not to take that visit to LSU.

Important to remember...

that his family in LA can talk to him when they want, and that means they can also be conduits...

It would be against the rules for anyone to "reach him" in this dead period. If somebody's trying to push him toward Red Stick, there should be a definite hand slapping handed out.
Dead period - not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on- or off-campus or permit official or unofficial visits.

Phone calls are allowed.

Personally, I think there's a good chance ESPN is working with old quotes here.

As to whether we "have him" or not, I'd say it's about 60/40 that Alabama does. I don't think it's ever been higher than that, either. He's got a situation at home not unlike Tommy Trott or Wes Brown, where family members have strong feelings about both schools and are pushing and pulling him different directions.

Once he gets back to the state of Alabama after the holidays, I think there's a good chance he firms up for Bama. The people he's staying with in Alabama are strongly UA-friendly.

Is that a guarantee? Not in the least. It makes it doubly tougher whenever the kid is from out of state, no matter who it is.

Isn't it one per week from staff of a particular school?
Don't get me lying Earle :D
November 28, 2004, through January 29, 2005, [except for
(1) though (5) below]. Six in-person off-campus contacts
per prospective student-athlete shall be permitted during
this time period with not more than one permitted in any
one calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) or partial
calendar week: This is the contact period

(2) December 20, 2004, through January 1, 2005: Dead Period

(3) January 9, 2005: Quiet Period

(4) January 10-13, 2005: Dead Period

(5) January 14-15, 2005: Quiet Period

I didn't see on the NCAA site where it said how many or how often a coach could talk with a recruit by phone or mail. I guess they could even open a chat room and talk all day. It's late though and I might need to look farther into it.

One Tiger recruit left, 5 others consider change
Former Port Barre All-State defensive back Chris Keys, who committed to LSU on March 9, said that he is now undecided and will make official visits to Alabama and LSU in January.

"Those are my top two," Keys said. "I'm not going to make a decision until after making those visits. A lot of it will have to do with my family members. After that I'll know for sure."

Keys attended North Jackson High in Stevenson, Ala. after he was expelled April 28 from Port Barre High for an on-campus arrest for possession of marijuana. Keys said that he developed a greater admiration for Saban who never revoked his scholarship offer throughout his ordeal.

"Coach Saban wasn't only the head coach, but he was the defensive backs coach as well," Keys said. "When I was there in the summer (camp) he was the coach that worked with me. He's a great coach. Then when I got into trouble he tried to help me and supported me so that I could get my life on the right track. When he left that's when I started thinking about Alabama."

I agree with you. Someone else said that they have a quote from him saying the he was making visits to both...well, there are also quotes from him saying that he committed to Bama after Saban left. And - since when did espn give Bama any credit for anything?

And $.02 is about what it's worth. I will give anyone a second chance. It's when they don't take advantage of that second chance and make the same mistakes over and over that I have a problem.

Rich...

I caught part of an interview with Weis, the new ND HC. He commented that he was calling all their recruits, which was all he was permitted to do under NCAA rules. On Keys, my understanding is that there was a lot more to that situation than shows in that press relief. The staff have satisfied themselves as to his character. It would be really naive to think that none of our recruits, or, for that matter, none of our current team members has ever used marijuana.

Win at any costs.... I see how it is.

There was a thing that i was raised on that your actions comes with a consequence.

Heck, I guess the biggest thing to me was Bama wasnt even his first choice he was going to LSU anyways so why do we need him if he wasnt true crimson from the beginning.
