I know everybody else here was thinking along the same line as me when CNS put the field goal team on the field late in the fourth quarter. IIRC 4:42 was left on the clock.

Okay...here's a chance at 3.... we've got a kicker who's got some bad Arkansas karma flowing through his veins....we haven't stopped Mac and Jones since daylight waned and if we hit it we still have to stop them again. But, coach NS made a decision coaches make, and Tiffin made him proud.

My point here is, if we hadn't gone for the FG we would have been driving for the tie instead of the win.

Good call coach!

I am not sure we would have gotten the desired result in OT..
Definitely not. Even with a game tying TD, Ark probably had more momentum and our D was getting beat up for most of the 2nd half. Their D was more rested, which would've made trouble in OT.

I for one will admit that I did not care for Saban's call to go for the field goal. I told my friends that were watching the game with me that it was a Shula type of call and that we were not paying him 4 million a year to make calls like that. I mean we send in a kicker who has made only 5 out of 10 fg's this year and then tell a defense who has not stopped Arkansas on their last 4 drives that they must stop Arky the next time out. I expected us to miss the FG and then have Arky run out the clock. Well the the rest is history, it all works out and and my friends tell me that is the reason we pay him 4 million dollars. I agree, he knew his team and he looked right at them and told them he needed them to perform and gave them the confidence to do it. The next game I coach will be my first, I am just glad that we have a coach and a coaching staff that prepared us to fight back and pull one out.

PS: I will give an assist in the win to Houston Nutt becuase if he does not pass on 3rd down and simply just runs the ball, there would have been about 40 seconds less on the clock when we took over. Thanks, Houston.

In the post-game interview, CNS said that he asked the D if they could stop the Hogs. They said they could, so he decided to kick the FG. Nice call. Thank goodness the D could back up what they said.

I was thinking that was exactly what happened in the 1997 Bama-Auburn game. It was nice to be on the other side of that.

Granted, McFadden was on the sidelines with a concussion for the entire last drive. It was pretty clear that the Bama D could not stop Dmac. Luckily, they won't face anyone quite like him again. Bama's future looks bright, though it would be a mistake to expect luck to swing their way like it did tonight (the PI calls, the interceptions, not running the clock for 90 seconds in the Arkansas red zone when it was a third down, etc etc).
What it comes down to is that Bama wanted it more, and Arkansas was badly outcoached. Our Dbacks looked awful and our offense is painfully one dimensional.

Great victory, I can't wait for the iron bowl! It's about time for bama to take down the barn again!

I didn't see too much wrong w/the way Nutt coached. He changed up his D, changed his O, and rode his horses when it counted. His team came back from way down. The only thing was his pass on 3rd down dur their last drive. If he had completed that we wouldn't be so happy now.

Remember, we lost one of our best defensive players early in this game-Darren Mustin. I think it made a difference for us. He is gamer for us was doing pretty well at helping to contain McFadden to that point. Also we were up 31-10 at one point and almost gave your guys the game on stupid penalties and miscues (fumbled snap and JPW's interception). Not to take anything away from the Hogs- they played well and fed off the momentum swings and made our defense pay. Good game though.

Really?? How do you know we would not have converted the 4th & 6 and gotten a TD on that drive? Then all we would've needed was a FG on the final drive instead of a somewhat questionable PI call and a TD.

Coaches get paid to make these kinds of calls, when it works, they are geniuses, when it doesn't, they're Shulas.

I think the point is that we pay Saban to make those decisions. We should never doubt that he is going to make the one that gives us the best chance to win, even if it is not the decision we would make ourselves. If we knew better what to do, we would be the ones on the field making $4 million per year. I wondered myself whether it was a good move, but it proved to be one. I am not questioning the man anymore.

Yes, Really. If we score the TD and tie the game, Arkansas doesn't get conservative and try to run out the clock. Advantage: Saban
