“I am pumped up about the first game,” Alabama senior tight end Brad Smelley said. “It is something we have all looked forward to. We are done beating up on each other and are ready to get after somebody else.”

I hope Brad Smelley has learned to block better. He is a good receiving TE but hurts the execution when used to block.

The Wildcat would have been a huge success against VaTech in 09 if he just got his body on his man.

I'm a Brad Smelley fan (may not sound like it), and pulling for a breakout season for him.

Can anyone ever remember less information coming out of practice than we get this year?

Seems like even when CPB swichted to the wishbone there was a little more than this.

Wasn't it the first play of the game where Ingram had a huge hole that would've been a huge gain but Smelly totally missed his man and the play gained three yards?

They don't want to let the secret out about the new uniforms and helmet design. :biggrin2:
Judging from practice photos...it appears we have gotten rid of the white stripe down the middle of the helmets...and even the numbers! I'm not so sure I am a fan of those new helmets, to be honest.

;)

Never in all my 38-years of being a Bama fan can I remember so little information comming from fall camp. It must have something to do with the QB competition and Saban's management of clutter. It's his way of shutting down speculation on message boards and in the media. Whatever the reasons it's worked. I mean, look at the football page, were telling jokes and speculating about LSU vs Oregon.

Speaking of Smelley and the Wildcat... Does anyone else remember him running the Wildcat in the 2010 A-day game? I was hoping to see him run it last year since he played QB at ACA. Guess that was just for show.

Well, last year we got information overload thanks to ESPN and the movie/DVD on CNS. I think Coach Saban realized that it was probably detrimental to the team's overall focus and decided to go back to how he normally does things for this season. Maybe a little more cryptic than in years past; but if you listen and read carefully enough, he's been giving information. We'll get plenty of information in about 9 days.

The team's attitude and overall chemistry, to my memory, is different this year, IMHO.

Which, IMO - when compared to last year, can be attributed directly to the lack of media access/attention during preseason. Last year's team couldn't help but be affected by all of the media surrounding them in preseason. Bama gets enough as it is; but add in the ESPN series, the CNS movie, et al and it's easy to see why they lacked focus, attitude, chemistry.

The one thing I've loved hearing this preseason is Saban's comments on leadership within the team. It sounds as though we have some great leadership, which normally leads to great attitude and chemistry.
