I question AUbarn @ #3......seems to me that up until ears arrived they kind of accepted a certain level of mediocrity. Some of those years were, no doubt, tempered because of wins over BAMA, but still they only have a handful of championships of any kind, unless you count the "co"-Western division championships & of course the PNC.:smilielol5:

I was wondering why Barn is #3.. Since when is coaching at a cow college such a hot seat job????? i know that in the last 3 years, they've had a great record but other than that, mediocre at best ( big picture).

I would replace UGA with Tennessee on that list. Like in the other thread, UGA has high expectations, but it's not like they actually get out the torches and pitchforks when they lose. Last year UGA really struggled, but the UGA fans saw the season as a success because they beat a Reggie Ball led GT team.

Arkansas should be on a list all by itself - it's tough to coach there even when you are winning.

Since Pat Dye, Auburn has been a hot seat job. One has to look no further than Terry Bowden and his win/loss record.

I think AU is listed so high simply because of the ridiculous nature of the attempted coup a few years back. The pressure traditionally hasn't been that great on coaches there, but the potential for trustees, the AD etc. to go all James Bond, hop on a plane in the dead of night...

Just the prospect of something so "black ops" warrants special consideration on a list like this one.

I have no problem with Bama being #1. We do expect a lot, which is the reason why we have 12 national championships.

I also have no problem with Auburn being in the top 5. If you are the head coach of Auburn, you have to...uh...live and work in Auburn. That's gotta be one of the most difficult things to do. :biggrin2:

My opinion ... the pressure of coaching at Bama is overstated.

Fan expectations here are probably no higher than they are at six or seven other glamor schools. Maybe at one time they were, but not after all these years in the wilderness.

And lest we forget, in spite of serious concerns (to put it mildly) about the previous staff, the majority of Bama fans favored giving them another year.

I have to agree with that, most of the nation lives in the past when it comes to coaching expectations at BAMA.. i think we were more than tolerant with x-cms and I feel that had franphony not cut out he would still be here..
Most BAMA fans if you ask them will all say the same thing " all we want is to see improvement from week to week and not be beat because we were the lesser coached team" . I think we had to get a Saban type coach in order to even compete now days. With the shambles ms left us in as far as talent we had to have a great coach to change the recruting front and so far it has paid off well more than the 4 mil a year!!
