Larry Bird once told Xavier McDaniel "I'm gonna get the ball right here. I'm gonna shoot it in your face!"

And he did it.

For your opponent to know you're gonna do something and still not be able to stop it.....that's what it's all about!

That's smash-mouth football. That's Bama football!

This is to you Dawgs. Let me remind you in particular of the third quarter.

You knew we were gonna run it!

yet...

YOU COULD NOT STOP IT!!!!

ROLL TIDE!

This is so true. Tough, physical football. I think this is where we have an advantage over the Domers. They have not played anybody close to how physical Bama plays. The Big 10(?) and Pac teams play finesse type football. They have not been hit anywhere like they will in Jan. I believe we will wear them down in the second half.

On that last drive before we punted to Georgia, the Dawgs had 10 men in the box. I so wanted to see a play action pass or bootleg run on third down. I think we would have fooled them badly. But there was also the clock to think about...

If our OL can play with the intensity and heart they did in the 2nd half against uga, I don't think ND can beat us. We may not go for 350yds, but the domers haven't seen what we can bring to the table. You can't really scrimmage for it. You can scheme your D and put more guys in the box, but unless you have the OL and RB's to run it, there is no way to appreciate what's coming. That's why LSU, uga, etc. are tougher games-they know firsthand what we can do. UGA knew and couldn't stop it, but strategically it's an even greater advantage against a team who hasn't played us or any SEC team like us. Remember how in Dallas we were 5 yds down field before Michigan touched our RB's? This game will be on us. If our OL can execute like yesterday and we can limit turnovers, special teams gaffes, etc., we should win. Then again if AJ starts throwing picks and we get FG's blocked who knows....

Stanford might take issue with your tough premise but I still like our chances.

Or just running a sweep to the wide side of the field probably would have gotten the first down.

Not to get my thread back to the top, but I thought you'd like to read Barrett's words here in case you haven't seen it. I promise I didn't plagiarize.

"That's your favorite thing as an offensive lineman," Jones said. "You know it's a run. They know it's a run. And they can't stop it."

I loved it. The only thing I've ever seen that was in the same universe of pounding was when Nebraska played someone (Miami, maybe?) back when NU was a powerhouse. I recall a screen shot where there were no defenders upright between the hash marks as NU ran wild. Barrett's quote 2 posts up is fantastic.

Not to divert from our success running the ball against GA but look at the box score for the WIS vs NB game. WIS had 539 yds rushing and only threw 10 passes for 101 yds.

It just goes to show that a good consistent running attack can put lots of points on the board. Of course that's what Oregon does almost every game.
