What are you reading right now (II)?

Magician: Apprentice by Raymond E. Feist

Book 1 of 4 of the Riftwar Saga

Ooh... One of my favorites and still holds up pretty well as a good rollicking read. I first read it back in the early 80s as it came out, and have read it at least another half dozen times.

There are another 30 books or so that I never made it through. Sequelitis!

Reading "Bad Company, Private Equity and the Death of the American Dream." About the bad and also some of the good aspects of PE taking over so many businesses.

On second thought, I did read the trilogy set on Kelewan that he coauthored with Janny Wurtz. That one was pretty solid if you find the Tsurrani interesting. I read further into the series, but it just trod over the same ground.

Just finished The Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown...long (over 600 pages) and the science can be quite dense at times, but it is a thriller with an almost unbelievable ending. The science is all real...he has done his homework. Delves into questions of consciousness and near death experiences that boggle the mind. Asks relevant questions of ethics in the process....

Caveat: Brown weaves so many subplots into this one that if you do not focus you can lose the main thread.

I had two read this book twice to really let the information contained within to sink in, but it will most likely turn what you currently know about the federal income tax on its head, it's kind of a boring read, it's full of legal cases and quotes, that's the good part because it is not speculation it's fact, the book is "Cracking the Code" by Pete Hendrickson, you can find it here, @losthorizons.com

I will have to add that one...

Just started the "The Sociopath Next Door"...

The Godfather by Mario Puzo

I've seen the movies a million times. Need to watch Parts 1 and 2 again after finally reading the book.
I really enjoyed that book. It's been a long time since I've read it. The main thing that I remember about it is that he never directly threatened people when getting them to do something. He always asked for their help. Hey, can you help me do xyz, etc. Of course, we know how it would have turned out had someone declined. :)

Yeah, you'd rather accept his request for assistance rather than receiving an offer you can't refuse. ;)

Thoroughly enjoyable book. I'm embarrassed that I had not read it before now.
