What do you think is the worst missed call in Tide history?

Excluding last weeks no call at LSU.
I remember one against Penn State (not sure what year) but the official called Joey Jones out of bounds in the endzone, when his foot was clearly in bounds. There was another one like this with AWBARN in the 90's; last few seconds of the game and the Bama receiver caught the ball in the endzone and the ref called him out, but the replay clearly showed him in-bounds.

O-well I thought "crying over spilled milk" might help pass the time while waiting for the kick-off!
Roll Tide!! :BigA:

You're thinking of the '95 game and it was a Freddie Kitchens pass to Curtis Brown. Auburn won 31-27 but the next day the Tuscaloosa News had the perfect picture showing his toe was down with the ball in his hands.

Another game breaker was when Danny Ford brought Arkansas to Bryant-Denny and won at the end with 12 men on the field and a one bounce pass to the end zone. Can't remember the year.

When Snake was

a junior, I believe, they took the nations longest winning streak, 22, to Athens for an afternoon contest with the Bulldogs. The Ga. qb threw a pass to the receiver, who was on his knees when he caught it, who then lateralled the ball to another player who then scored. Worst call I ever saw. We lost the streak. The Bear brought 'em back to Tuscaloosa to see if he couldn't get 'em back on the right track. A long week of practice, that week.

I talk to Curtis Brown often and he is still angry over that call. I still think tha worst one was the call at Pen State. The official who called the receiver out was Mike Guman's uncle. If anyone doesn't remember Mike Guman, he was the runningback for Penn State in 1978. Sports Illustrated had a big article and cartoon about that call.

Too many to cpunt

However, Joe Willie's sneak vs Texas in the Orange Bowl was a real bad one. I agree that P. Gothard laying 2 yards inside the back end zone was pretty sad! however, I believe the SEC passed a rule on not letting officials call games that involve thier involvement in one of the teams playing came from that one.........and quess what guy's the official that blew the call replaced Moreneo(LSU) grad for our game!

I agree. Namath's touchdown that was not called in the Orange Bowl. Bama won that game against Texas.

It was Preston Gothard that caught the TD pass at Penn State, and it gets my vote as the worst call. It would have been the game winning points.
I agree. There was NO grey area about that call. His ENTIRE body was clearly inbounds. Also, it denied BAMA a fantastic 4th quarter comeback.

That Penn State Game

Walter Lewis was the quarterback if I remember right...........and Jesse Bendross had a couple of scores...........and Gothard caught the ball on his back in the end zone.........worst call ever........

I remember SI having a grid of the Penn State field........it was missing a chunk in the end zone.......that they had added to the sidelines.......when a PSU player had caught a 40 yard bomb against Nebraska out of bounds, but Guman's uncle had called it IN.........

1995. I could have made that call from my seats in the end zone. That's how bad it was. :(
Wasn't that 1997? I say this because I watched that game in my ex-wife's hospital room with our new baby girl. She's seven now.

Anyway...
vs. Miami in the 1990 Sugar Bowl. A fumble was given to Miami even though our player was clearly down and then a fumble was taken away even though the replay clearly showed Keith McCants stripping Leonard Conley of the ball.
vs. Arkansas 2002? Twelve men on the field and either a hold or pass interference non-call that cost us the game.

It was 1995. In 1997 we had the game won but lost a fumble with less than a minute to go and AU kicked a field goal to win. That was DuBose's first year and that play cost the OC his job.

1995 was the year that they beat us when they 12 on the field on 2nd down and then scored on fourth down when the receiver trapped the ball.

In 1997, they beat us on a bomb, and there supposedly was an illegal pick that wasn't called.

In addition to the ones mentioned, I'd add the no call on Tennessee's last TD in 2001. There were 2 holds on that play, and neither were called.

On Curtis Brown's out of bounds call: Yes, photos came out showing that it was a catch. Yes, it should have been a TD. But, that was one of the closest plays I've ever seen, and I really don't see how anyone could make that call at full speed. I've watched the replay many times, and I always have to run it in slow motion to confirm that he caught it. And, they were down one official that night because one of them blew out his knee in the first quarter. That was so close that no matter which way it's called, someone is gonna cry foul. I cannot imagine the firestorm that would have erupted if they had called that a TD in Jordan Hare. In a way, it was ironic because coming into that game, they had gone a year thinking they made the first down in the 1994 game. Then, we had to go a year thinking we had that touchdown.

I have to say two of them because the kind of went together. In 1989, both the Auburn and Miami game were full of bad calls. I remember Auburn scored a long TD when the WR (Tillman?) was out bounds. There was also an Auburn TD drive with a non-called fumble. I seem to remember that one of the TS that they had 12 men on the field. Against Miami, there were two clear fumbles on Miami TD drives.
