I waited a few years to see American Beauty, at least until the hype had been lifted.

I sort of liked the film. Though, I'm a huge Kevin Spacey fan.

I agree wholeheartedly with many that have already been posted, but to avoid redundancy, I submit some others:

Pirates of the Caribbean
Harry Potter (anything Harry Potter)
Independence Day
Men in Black
Spider Man (any of the series)
Bat Man (any of the series)
X Men (any of the series)
Pretty much any superhero movie whatsoever
Any Indiana Jones movie other than Raiders of the Lost Ark
Jurassic Park
The Sixth Sense (a straight rip-off of Jacob's Ladder)

1) Blade Runner (I think if it was redone now, it could be really good.)
2) American Beauty (good call there)
3) The Gladiator (solid movie, but shouldn't have even touched a nomination for best picture)
4) Titanic (again, a solid movie that didn't deserve to be the nominated for best picture or make five bazillion dollars)
5) The Departed (awesome movie for the most part, but ending was really bad due to the protagonist acting completely out of character)

I was trying to find a good way to dislodge one of my top/bottom five and replace it with Lord of the Rings.

Those films stunk in a big way.

I've never seen any of the LOTR movies; I didn't care for the novel(s) so I guess I had no interest in the movies. I think your GWTW and Oz have sure suffered from over-play.

Agreed on American Beauty. Unforgiven comes to mind. I like the movie, but don't see why it's painted as legendary.

Crash was perhaps the most overrated. Very predictable plot. It can't hols American History X's jock.

Hidden crap crouching feces was the most overhyped. It looked like an asian version of Zorro the Gay Blade (wheeee look at me prance through trees with my floppy sword). It was simply unwatchable. However I did like the other movies that copied the style of that movie... perhaps bc I had such low expectations.

The Spirit was the most recent one that was terrible. It was nothing like Sin City or 300. Maybe that was the point but Im not a comic book nerd so it was just lame.
