Easy drive from ATL, about six hours. Then again I-75 always has some kind of construction no matter the time of year or day of week.

Only problem is you never know what you're going to get in Atlanta, and the I-285/I-75S junction can be nasty. My wife is from south Ga, so we go down that way pretty often. I've been stuck on 285 waiting to get on 75S for an hour on a Sunday afternoon. I've found that Hwy 280 works better for me. You can either hit I-75 at Cordele or Tifton. Takes about the same amount of time as going through ATL

Been a few years, but when I attended UA and used to drive home (Orlando), I always found I65 -> 231 -> I10 -> I75 to be the fastest route...

You're right, we have lots of construction here in ATL and always on weekends.

Drive south and east until you see all the jorts. It should also feel like you're in a place that really hasn't been on the map until the last 25 years.

I used to live in Orlando and Gainesville is on the way. 20 east to 75 south is definitely the fastest way to go. You can make it in 6 hours with no trouble. There is construction throughout southern Georgia, as there as been for years now, but it won't slow you down. Roll Tide.

When my parents went to G'ville for my wedding in April (from Tuscaloosa) they went the Montgomery route, then picked up 82 through Union Springs, Albany, and hopped on 75 at Tifton. If I were doing it, I'd get to Montgomery, then 231 to Marianna, then 10, but that puts you going through Tallahassee, and I'm not sure what gameday/weekend traffic is like there (or if they're even at Doak-Campbell this week). Whatever you do, I strongly suggest staying as far away from Atlanta as possible. Most direct, sure, but God only knows what traffic horrors you'll run into in Atlanta. (Unless going through the downtown connector at 9:30am on New Year's Day, I avoid Atlanta like the plague). Just my two cents.

Travel a lot for Business,, live just west of Bham ,, gone every way possible and I am a time and distance nut...
Their is no way better than 20to 285 to 75..
there is always the possibility of construction, but 280 has that as well as traffic and the local LEO's are pretty picky about those speed limits,, and they vary a lot from town to town and rural areas...
The 65/231/10 route also goes through a lot of small towns and the troopers have gotten thick on 231 in recent years...

The ATL route is usually and hour better (on avg) than any other ..
