Just wondering about the timing with naming Tosh DC yesterday. Did anybody else find this odd timing? Anything to do with today's results or lack thereof?

I'm thinking inside the building Tosh has been known as the DC and recruits were made aware of it for some time.

Does anybody think UGA and Smart are recruiting a little to well? Saw they signed 7 top 100 ESPN players which is the most ever..

4 of their 7 five star guys are in-state. HUGE amount of talent in GA this year. All 4 are from towns within about a 2 hour drive or less to Athens. They've also got 8 4 star players from in state also.

We've had 3 great classes back-to-back-to-back. The depth chart is jammed up and these kids want to play on day 1. It happens. We had the same problem in 2010 following the 2008 and 2009 classes.

That's the good news here. Last years class was so talented that having a down year shouldn't be too big of a deal in the long term. We could very well be starting 6 players on offense from that last class plus Najee who will basically be a starter.

But we played lot of DBs last year. WE have some experience returning and we already got Savion. WE will be okay. We just need to add another body or 2 on DL.

Thompson is the only player with meaningful reps, and he got that due to hootie getting hurt. Shyiem Carter played just a bit against Clemson when Brown appeared to have issues, and Diggs played in game one giving way to Wallace and never played much other than mop up past that.

It's the least experienced returning depth at DB we have had in a long, long time mostly because our package players like Star and Money usually move over to traditional CB or S roles after package experience, but this year our Star and Money players were also seniors.

This is why I think we'd love to have a grad transfer DB and/or DT. We have bodies but we'd probably love to have a 21-22yo guy that could be trusted if things went sideways.

My suspicion is that we are going to be scouring the grad transfer and juco market for some gems. We can only give 25 scollies a year.

Did not know that. It was my understanding that the NCAA allows football teams to add up to 25 new scholarship players to the roster per academic year, so long as the total number of scholarship players does not exceed 85.

The NCAA scholarship rules are so inscrutable that I just go by what the "word" is on the available numbers. 23 was supposedly our number and we're pretty clearly gonna fall short of that number. So I'm expecting a play at grad transfers this Spring and maybe late qualifying JUCOs who have talent.

agreed - Thompson played very well when called on and certainly appears to have all the tools. I'm only thinking about the experience factor. Sometimes having a guy that's seen all these situations in live game action can be more advantageous than a guy who runs a 0.05 faster 40 yards dash. There's a lot of talent, but I expect with the youth we could see a few more mental mistakes next year than we are used to, particularly early in the season.

That is generally true, with the exception being that if you have any unfilled scollies from prior years you can fill them. For example, if a school only signs 23 players in a given year they can sign 27 the following year. The total still cannot exceed 85.

... it could have a subconscious effect, but I would say the conscious effect would be " if I go to Alabama, and I am good enough to play, I will play - no matter how big the stage"
