Who ARE my favorite Bama Players?
Paul William Bryant
Terry Davis (He began my golden era of Alabama Football!)
Johnny Musso
Derrick Thomas (class)
Joe Willie Namath (wow, and I still say wow in 2009!)
Cornelius Bennett
Jay Barker (nothing but a winner!)
George Teague (play it again, and again, and again....you know what I'm talking about!)
Sean Alexander (I believe you were more of the real coach during your years at UA than the actual coaches hired! Thank you for your maturity and leadership!)
the Hannahs
Dwight Stevenson (If CPB said he was the best, then he was the best!)
Van Tiffen (Thank you for the best win ever!)
Greg Richardson (for catching Shula's pass and running out of bounds with the awb players all over him! Some things are NEVER forgotten! '85)

George Teague remains my favorite player. In fact, there were a lot of players from that 92 team that are still among my favorites Langham (even with the mistakes he made), Palmer, Lassic, Barker, the list goes on. It was my first and only time seeing the Tide win it all.

Prothro is up there as well. I was really sad at how his career ended but he was a damn good receiver and a class guy.

Personally, I will never forget the anchors of the '05 defense. Demeco, Roman, and Freddie put that team on their back after Tyrone went down and the offense started to struggle.

I've only just recently been this crazy about bama football... It was Shula's Last season.

DJ Hall
Tyrone Prothro
Julio Jones (I've idolized Julio since he was a Jr at Foley and us Davidson Warriors played Foley, and our star corner, Travis Means, and Highly touted Safety, Michael McNeil, were getting torched every single down!)
Andre Smith
Simeon Castille
Terrance Cody
Rashad Johnson
Rolondo McClain

My list is small and embarassing :frown:

I was born a huge Bama fan in 1981...

So naturally, when I was old enough to really understand what was going on...my favorite player was Lamonde Russell...#81. He is still my favorite player to this very day.

Other players I have loved throughout my life are:

Tyrone Prothro
George Teague
Antonio Langham
David Palmer
Gary Hollingsworth
Jay Barker
Shaun Alexander
Shaud Williams
Simeon Castille (earlier in his career)
Rashad Johnson

And now...
Julio Jones
Mark Ingram
Terrence Cody
Rolando McClain (or is it Orlando McCain?)

And the list goes on...

Been a fan for as long as I can remember (which is long!) Thus, I'm with Bayou--my list would start with the 61 team (was alive then, but don't really remember watching...just for reading/hearing about them) move to most of the 64 & 66 teams and come forward adding several per year. So I'll just read other posts here & remember.

Deuce
Demeco Ryans
Chris Samuels
Tyler Watts
George Teague
Jay Barker
Shaud Williams
Roman Harper
Tim Castille
Tyrone Prothro
Terrance Cody - he's awesome and we share the same last name (no relation). ;)

that's all I can think of right now...

I'm about to enter my 62nd year as a Bama fan, needless to say, there are too many to even attempt to list. I'll just list the guy who first attracted me to Alabama football........Harry Gilmer. I only got to see him a few times in the Saturday newsreels at the Brookley theater in Mobile, but I had just learned to read and I used to devour the sports pages of the newspaper with my Dad. Harry Gilmer with his jump passes dang near had rock star status back then. I'd love to know just how many kids he swung to Alabama back then.

Best thing is, he's still alive and lives somewhere in Missouri. Looks to be in good shape too. :BigA::BigA::BigA:

Shaun Alexander (maybe he should get into coaching)
Bobby Humphrey (never seemed to go down after the first hit)
Shaud Williams (knew him while a student, lots of heart)
Jarret Johnson
Biscuit (Cornelius Bennett to the uninitiated)
Terrance Cody

I could go on, but will stop here.

I've been closely following the Tide since 1969. So many favorite players, but most of mine would come from those my early days when I idolized them.

Players like...

Johnny Musso - Coach Bryant once said ""Johnny can do everything. He's a great runner, blocker and passer. If we let him, he'd be a great defensive back, too. Last year he had to run his own interference and he still gained over 1,100 yards. The ideal situation would be Musso running with Musso up front blocking for him."

Scott Hunter
Alvin Samples
Jim Bunch
John Hannah
Jim Krapf
Tom Surlas
Dave Brungard
Wilbur Jackson
E J Junior
Joe LaBue
Steve Bisceglia

Even Neb Hayden was a hero to me.

and a whole lot of other players that only the old timers here would recognize.

What makes me happy looking at these names is remembering when I was just old enough to go outside in my front yard and pretend like I was (insert name here) throwing a TD, running for a TD, or catching a TD. I spent many a halftime being Joe Namath, Gary Hollingsworth, Johnny Musso, David Palmer, etc. Those are the memories I love the most about my youth and Alabama football. God might not have given me the body to play for the Tide...but He gave me the heart to love her through thick and thin!

I've had about five favorite players per Bama team, per year, since 1961..
so my list is approximately 240 players long.. so here we go....
(1) nah I won't do that to ya.....lol

My favorite player of all is Johnny Musso. I admired him so much that I wore 22 as a running back on my junior high team. I don't think we've ever had a better all around back as far as running and blocking. And he was a leader.

Next would be Snake- I just loved watching him play both running and passing. I went to every home game in 66 and that's still my favorite team of all.

There just simply too many to mention but those are definitely my top two.

I'm 66 years old, yeah I know, that's old! But I became a Bama fan in '58. With the media not being what it is now, I relied mostly on radio to just hear the games. Wow, all the players from back then to the present, it's hard to remember even some of them.
Pat Trammell
Paul Crane
Johnny Musso
Ray Abbrusze (ms)
John and Charlie Hannah
Tommy Wilcox
Snake Stabler
Ozzie Newsome
John Mitchell.
This is just a few that I can think of, but there are many more. Hell, everybody that played for the Tide is my favorite player! Just a lot left unmentioned.

I'm almost as old as the guy posting above me and I'm at the point that I don't even try any more to compose a list of favs. TNTC (too numerous to count). Enjoy reading the others though....
