UT won't get a big name. Too late in the game for that. They're not going to get a Muschamp, an Edsal, a Whittingham. Mike Leach might be the best of the household names, but I doubt the powers that be at UT will hire someone who doesn't understand what happens after his offense leaves the field.

Some names I've seen tossed around:

Duke's David Cutcliffe (obvious)
Air Force's Troy Calhoun (hard pull since he played QB at **)
Syracuse's Doug Marrone (no idea why he's mentioned)

I don't think they get a splash hire, either. Regardless of who they get though, it will be an upgrade.

They will want a proven head coach and be willing to spend the money to get one. But NSD is exactly three weeks from today, and most big-name coaches have pretty much gotten the blue chip hay in the barn. The only schools who could pull off such a hire from the college ranks are the top echelon, and UT is not part of that group. They might find someone willing to take a pay cut from an NFL gig, but who would you want from the teams that didn't make the playoffs?

The new HC will be an upgrade for many reasons, but I doubt the staff he'll be able to assemble will come close to matching the quality that Kiffin had on the sidelines. Say what you want about his and the Ogre's character, but the guys they found to work for them could coach.
