Who is Saban's replacement?

Am I reading this correctly. This flight was on December 8th of 2023. Coach Saban always has a plan. If these dates are correct, Coach may have been planning this for some time now.
Yes. There's no proof this was Lanning or his agent, but I can't help but wonder how many flights (on high-end private jets) occur between Eugene and Tuscaloosa.

I suspect this was an early meeting / interview and we'll have confirmation soon that Lanning is the new HC. I've no inside info, but there are a few things like this that seem to indicate this was in place for some time...

I think whoever the successor is will be handed the keys to a Ferrari. He will know the complete status of the roster, who he needs to focus solidifying their commitment. He will know who among the support staff, nutrionists, trainers, etc. is staying. The transition will be handled as best it can possibly be done. And that's the way it should be done.

Here son. I built this car with my own hands. Spent 17 years doing it. Here's the keys. Don't wreck it!!

The fact that Lanning basically blew off Texas A&M yet he is in Tuscaloosa tonight makes you wonder how long was this really going on

Seems like he lost to Washington and a week later in an interview, probably had to sign a NDA, and there was maybe an agreement in principle. Probably a press conference in the a.m.

I would be willing to bet that Saban was interviewing assistants for the successor coach. This will fall in line with exactly how i think this transition would be handled...

I’m wondering if he was striking out on d coordinators and was like im too old start from scratch with another maybe good fit young guy and just pulled the trigger?

With Saban being so detail oriented and the way he feels about the team that after watching dumpster fires in other head coach searches, he wanted to avoid all that commotion and to keep the team together. (Yes, Aubie I'm talking about you.)

The only guys who can stop any sort of bleeding are

Kirby - Not happening obviously
Sark - also likely not happening
Kiffin - doubt it
Lanning - makes the most sense
I only see Lanning as a strong possibility on this list. Kirby is not going anywhere because he is home and in a strong position. We can't compete with Texas on the money to get Sark, but all those big money guys seem to try to run the program. Sark might be fed up with all that inside politics, who knows. If that is the case, Sark might show some desire for something else. Still a long shot. Kiffin would do well here, but probably has burned too many bridges to be considered. That leaves Lanning.
