Who is Saban's replacement?

Whoever the next coach is will be setup for success with Saban staying involved, because I think Saban's major role in "staying involved" will be fundraising to compete in the NIL and keeping brand recognition at the top of the college football market. Saban's presence and name on top of getting a solid hire would almost ensure any dip would be very, very short term, if at all.
My feelings exactly...............Saban isnt keen to let what he built fall apart

You would think so. But I read where Saban was on the fence about retiring 5 minutes before he met with the team Wednesday. Had two speeches ready and was on the phone with Ms. Terry right up to the time he made his decision. That would mean that they had no one in place.

OR the guy they had lined up had already backed out...

I can also tell you that after 8 months of golf, no football, and hanging around grandkids, etc. he may not want to get back into head coaching, but he will want to be back a part of football in some capacity. What better way than to get plugged back in at his new office in the building and begin a part of the team by fundraising and keeping the Bama brand flourishing?

If it's DeBoer I'll support him, not my first choice but he'll be our coach, for everyone including myself, he is not from the south hasn't recruited the south, Saban had never recruited the south when he went to LSU, Urban didn't recruit the south when he came from Utah to Florida, I think they both did pretty good, so if it's DeBoer let's give him a chance Roll Tide!!!!

Exactly...............CEO Emeritus status suits him

I thought Byrne's 72 hour statement was a bit....enthusiastic, if you will. Despite all that Saban has done to build a great program at Bama, it was never going to be an easy search. His dominance has sucked all the air out of the coaching profession for the last 16 years. There are men who would have won titles, but got fired because he couldn't compare. The entire college coaching profession is breathing a sign of relief now and MANY more schools just had their odds of achieving raised. If you're at a blue blood, there is absolutely no reason to leave now.
I think Nick had lengthy discussions with Byrne over the past couple of years about retirement...especially lately. Gregg had his short list and when this happened not even 48 hours ago, he started burning up the phone. I think we got our man but no one except the coach and Saban know about it.

DeBoer has every logical reason to leave Washington, about on the same level as why Harbaugh will probably leave Michigan, but make no mistake UW will throw everything at him to keep him.

Just don't think anyone was lined up. Remember, Nick made his decision not 48 hours ago. No time to have someone in place. But I am sure he told Byrne...be ready. So when this happened our AD started the search in earnest. And, I think we already have our new coach.

This DeBoer thing might still be nothing other than a smokescreen. Maybe we will know soon. But, it might end up taking more than two or three days to finalize the selection of our future coach. If so, I would think that Saban or Byrne would meet again with the team and explain that selecting the right coach is critical and a little more time is needed; just hang on until this thing gets settled.

Frankly, I'd love a DeBoer-Saban collaboration at the Capstone.

I heard someone on sportstalk radio say this on the ride to work. Very similar to Jim Harbaugh and Michigan. Harbaugh is losing 44 seniors and juniors leaving for the draft. If he came back it would be a total rebuild and why in the heck would he do that with the La Chargers sitting there with a franchise quarterback already in place.

Harbaugh is a sort of a weird dude who loves Michigan. I would not venture to predict his choices here.
