Who is Saban's replacement?

My understanding with Kiffin is two things were going on at once.

A: Kiffin had already worn out his welcome at Alabama, he was gone after the season no matter what, whether or not he had a head coaching job. I can't verify this, but with all the Joey Freshwater stuff going around it's plausible.

B: Kiffin showed up unprepared and presumably hungover for the Washington game. He actually called plays the team had no practiced, which was one reason the offense was such a mess that game. This lead to his immediate removal instead of coaching the championship game.

This is all based on second hand information, but generally reliable. Kiffin just doesn't seem to do as well in the spotlight, Mississippi seems like a good place for him honestly, but don't get me wrong, I have him on my list just not at the top.

It feels like Lanning is out, but Saban also said he wasn't leaving.

I can verify - big boosters and even a former BOT member were lined up against him.
It was likely a combination of things - if his hungover coaching episode was a one-off, he and CNS could have had a “C-T-J” meeting about it, but that combined with sleeping with someone else’s wife (who happens to carry some weight) could likely be the reasons.
He’s getting older - I didn’t stop my partying until I was in my late 40s. Bama can win with him, no question: but can he keep the job “if offered”?

Honestly, if he wasn't it's kind of disappointing. Lanning checks the boxes in terms of recruiting and using the portal well, and he's had enough success to show he both knows defense and in the least can maintain a program's success.

Ryans doesn’t know how to recruit. Doesn’t know how to work the college game. Had he cut his teeth in college ball, I think this would be a smart bet. But there’s things about the college game he just doesn’t have a clue about.

Bingo! I am afraid that this hire would be just asking for another Shula era. And that's not a knock on Ryans at all. He'd be a fish out of water, big time. He is in the NFL for a reason. The PTB need to leave well enough alone there

I don't understand the appeal of DeMeco. Yes, he's a Bama guy, and he was great for us when he played here, but do we really wanna replace the goat with a guy who only has one year of coaching experience z and it's not even in college? Do we even know if he's a good coach yet? There are plenty of NFL coaches who had success in year one, then fizzled out. Not saying he isn't a good coach, but do we really know yet?

I’ll help you out:
Alabama is home, in all ways.
Extremely successful coordinator at the NFL level.
Turned the Texans around with a first year quarterback, greatly exceeding expectations.
If memory serves, he’s a smart guy.
Finally, and in today’s society, potentially the biggest in the recruiting world, he’s a young, intelligent, successful man of color. If Mommas like their kid playing for Saban, why wouldn’t they like their kid playing for Demeco?

Let me also add that Saban is not leaving the program, he’s just not able to give his all to be the head coach. Imagine Demeco with a Saban on his shoulder, to help ease the transition.

I think DeMeco has risen to every challenge he's ever had. Give him enough time to learn the college game and he'd rise to the challenge. But we can't give this job to someone with zero college experience. Not a knock on Ryans at all, he's great.

I would be hugely surprised if it’s DR. I just don’t see a “winning” (and apparently very satisfied) coach leaving a pro HC gig. He’s been an assistant in the pros for a while.
Would love it, just don’t see it.

I'd throw someone like DeMeco in there. Obv the players are excited about the name. I could see him being one to get them excited. Someone who people think we have no shot geting.

He is the guy I think will be announced Sunday.

I agree, but the fact is that we don't know that they're doing any such thing. I could be wrong, but Nick Saban doesn't seem like a guy whose plans include much in the way of "maybe." I doubt he started the Lanning rumors, but I also doubt that he made a plan with Lanning, only to have Lanning ditch. No, I think a plan has been in place for a while. Not saying that they trolled us with the Lanning thing, but I just think it turned out to be a false alarm.

I still think there's a plan, and it hasn't been revealed to us yet. And I don't think it involves any panic.

Yeah, I still think Saban has his hands on things...............and I think he and Byrne are working it. Also, it's somewhat humorous that Lane Kiffin is posting Roll Tide all over Twitter all of a sudden

I will say I think the majority of us are handling this transition fairly well.

Probably because we have been expecting it to happen at any time.

We’ve had some form of a ‘who replaces CNS’ type of thread several years in a row now because we knew it was coming sooner than later.

There is also less anxiety because CNS built a great foundation for the next incoming HC.

Things are a LOT better now than when CNS arrived and for that I’m super thankful.

If you’ve been here long enough, you’ve learned to recognize the members who tend toward the negative when Alabama Football is concerned…and this is simply the manner in which some people process their world.

Of course there are others who come here to post negativity in order to get a rise out of true Bama fans, but the aforementioned Bama fans aren’t purposefully negative to get a rise out of the other members…it’s just the way they’re wired.

Exactly. Too many seem to want him and to be honest, it makes us sound like auburn when they were floating the idea of Caddy getting the job last season. Not a good hire at all. Let him do his thing in the NFL
