Who is your preferred opponent in SEC championship

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

The last time we had to play them a second time in a season, they beat us. And in fact that’s the only time they’ve beaten us in the past 20 years.

I look back at the 2011 season and us getting a rematch with LSU and we won the second game after losing the first. Georgia has seemingly improved since our first meeting and we’ve regressed over the last few weeks (even if we’ve yet to lose since then). Finally, even if we did beat them, they shut us out in that second half.

I’m not saying I think we’d lose for certain, I’m simply saying looking at it as neutrally as I possibly can, I’d favor them in a rematch.

I keep seeing people say Georgia has improved since Alabama…

Kentucky- Really

Auburn- They were in serious danger of being blown out until a controversial call flipped the entire game

Ole Miss- Best win

Florida- in all honesty they probably should’ve lost this one too.

Miss St- Are we seriously hyping up a team that escaped Arkansas.

I think Georgia is still the same Georgia we left in Athens over a month ago. I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if Texas beats them in their own dump by two touchdowns this coming up weekend

… I wouldn't be surprised if the barn has given up on the Vandy game and is preparing for us already.
I would’ve expected that as well, and probably had they not fired Freeze those expectations would’ve been met. If not for undisciplined play leading to a huge penalty margin against AU, however, they’d have won yesterday.

Slightly off topic, but I am delighting in criticizing my ND friends for stooping to scheduling VU homecoming opponents…

It looks like 8&4, now undefeated at 9-0, is the odds on favorite the way they are playing. Yea, they have to go to the gamecocks and the froghorns but they look like the team to beat. That would be an epic matchup in the SECCG and not one I am at all comfortable about. But whatever, just got to win by one point and on to the next one.

Alabama winning vs Oklahoma makes Alabama a virtual lock for the SECCG

aTm is dependent on the Georgia-Texas game. Should Texas beat Georgia then beat aTm then it’s going to be a debate between Ole Miss, aTm, and Texas which currently favors surprisingly Ole Miss. I think Texas maybe the team nooone really wants to play right now and them getting aTm at home isn’t a gimmie for aTm.

I like 8&4 in this renewed rivalry game the way they are playing now. The froghorns beat them up pretty good last year in the 12th man stadium and I believe aggie returns the favor.

You make good points here. I'm not saying Georgia has looked like a contender since our game with them, and we haven't. But they've had a functioning offense more often than us since then. Defensively, they are not at all what they were a few years ago and our defense has improved all here, so there is that.

What I am NOT saying is that I think we would for sure lose. What I am saying is that I'd like their chances better than ours, but not by landslide.

But back to the original point; the question was which team would you prefer to face? Well I think we'd match up more poorly vs. Texas A&M than Georgia, but I made the point that I am frankly tired of the Georgia game. It has become the new Alabama vs. LSU game since LSU has fallen on hard times the last 5 years or so. It is a manufactured rivalry, just like LSU, for similar reasons, because of Kirby in this case. But the main element than held both "rivalries" together - Coach Saban - is now retired. The SEC has forced this game onto the schedule the last few years because there is no schedule rotation. Now we will have a rotation going forward (I hope) and will get a two year break from this game.

I would rather face Georgia than the other 3. Mostly because Georgia won’t be able to cover up their deficiencies and will have to rely on Stockton to beat us. I think everyone is overplaying their apparent “balance” and “getting better” looks. Had Auburn or Florida had 5% better quarterback play then they would be sitting at 3 losses.

To me Texas by far is the scariest team in the SEC. They have the most talented defense and their offense truly is getting better.

aTm looks great but I’m just not so certain if it’s that they are that good or it’s been due to a manageable schedule.

Ole Miss… Their offense you better pack a lunch and their defense is decent.

So if I was to rank the preferable to less preferential

1) Georgia
2) aTm
3) Ole Miss
4) Texas

If we make it to the SECCG our opponent is most likely either TAMU or UGA and out of those two I'd rather play UGA. I think we have the psychological advantage over them because after all the times we beat them they probably have some doubts in the back of their mind about if they can beat us every time they face us. Also, if you ask me which of those two QB's I fear most (Reed or Stockton) I'd definitely say Reed.

Are we a lock to get in the game? Any opponent can beat this team based on last nights and other performances. I pencil in Georgia and A&M as likely winners over Bama. Right now there are several teams in the country that can beat Alabama.

So I guess just because there are other teams out there who might be able to beat us we just might as well go on and shut it down for the year?
I have never seen so many sad sacks after a win. Was it a spectacular win? no. But it was a win.

Now, to the question at hand, I'd rather us play aTm or Ole Miss and would probably rather it be Ole Miss between those two.

I think it's clear on Monday afternoon, that aTm is looking the part of going to Atlanta for the SECCG. I know they do still have Texas at Austin in front of them, but that team has been so up and down this year, even in the same quarter. aTm has been consistent. If Bama is fortunate enough to get there, it'll be against the Aggies.

With OU this weekend and the barn at the end, we have plenty to say grace over without worrying about who else does what, to whom, in which order.

If we take care of our own business, we’re fine. If we don’t, we’re not.

Either way, it’s about us and our own performance. Not anybody else’s.
