Who is your preferred opponent in SEC championship

So now we beat the Barners and get to play in the SEC title game but even if we win that game we are not gong to be one of the top 4 teams. So we are gonna have to play in the SEC title game and then turn around and play in the first round of the playoff. If we lose the SEC Championship game we are out of the playoff. Only thing we might get by winning SEC title game is a first round home game.

I don't mean to be negative but its hard to swallow that we would be the SEC Champs and still playing in the first round. Yes I know, guess we should of beat OU.

Interesting fact, Alabama, TAMU, UGA, and Ole Miss all play their rivals this weekend on the road. I do not see UGA losing to Tech or Ole Miss losing to MSU; however both Alabama and TAMU should be on upset alert.

Well, all I know is we need to be Auburn next Saturday or the whole season is down the tubes. I think our guys can do it, but they need to show up take care of business. As it turns out, this one game is for everything - SEC Championship and the Playoffs. Get the win BAMA!!!
I never, ever want to be awbern... 😖 ;)

Correct.

There are too many teams ahead of us to get into the Top 4 now.

But still a Home Playoff game is much better than a Road game or being left out.

I don’t think we can be too upset about not being a Top 4 Seed.

We’ve lost not 1 but 2 games we had no business losing.

Hopefully we can win 2 in a row and get a good draw that favors us matchup wise and we’ll see what happens.

I think all 4 games could go either way.

UGA probably doesn’t even remotely take GT seriously now and yesterday was by far GT’s worst showing. UGA has played around with teams all year and it’s almost bit them.

OM has massive distractions right now because of Lane. The Egg Bowl is usually pretty competitive and in the last 10 games the lower ranked team pulled off the upset 4 times. Upsets really happen in this one.

Yeah you are right. UGA could theoretically NOT make the SEC title game, sit home and watch it, and still get a 1st round bye. But I guess they earned it by only losing one game.

I Know that's what the ESPN playoff predictor says, but I just don't see it. I think we will jump up there if we beat A&M. I think it would probably help if Georgia loses to Tech, so we could then reclaim our rightful place ahead of Georgia.

There is no way that the SEC champ does not get a top 4 seed. Even a 2 loss Bama. The BIG10 champ will be #1 seed, loser will be 5, If Texas Tech wins out they will be a top 4 seed, then most likely 2 SEC teams, the champion and Georgia most likely. We just have to beat Auburn.

But, what if we lose the SECCG?????...I think the idiot committee throws us out of the playoffs with 3 losses.

Last year SMU lost the ACC championship game and I swore we would have got in, but SMU got in over us. Hopefully, if that happens they do the same thing. Lets just beat Auburn first.

Look, I get it, we are Bama fans, and we want Bama in the CFP. SMU losing their CCG keeps being brought up, but I think everyone is forgetting that it was only their 2nd loss at that point, not 3rd as it would be for Bama. The only 3 loss team to make the playoffs last year was Clemson, and they did it by winning their CCG, not losing it.

I have no idea what would happen; I could see the CFP committee going both ways. All I know is that I have said from the start of this 12-team format that I don't think 3-loss teams should get in unless there are not enough 2, 1, or 0 loss teams to fill the spots. I get all the arguments for us, the tough schedule and all, but at some point, you just have to win the games and stop hoping for excuses to get you in.

2 straight years where this team controlled its destiny and fell on its face against OU. The difference this year is that we now control our destiny again. So let's win our way in and leave no doubt.

At least this year, the loss to OU is understandable. Last year, we completely faceplanted against them. There was no excuse. This year, OU themselves are playoff contenders. Yes it was at home, but they were the more desperate team, having already lost their second game, and it's not like we haven't been on this gauntlet SEC schedule run. We're beat up. We absolutely did lose the game more than they won it, by our own mistakes. Still, they are a good team, not the shell of a team they were last year.

What is egregious for this season is how we opened against FSU. A team that turned out to be pretty pathetic. That is the game that is going to cost us if we ended up missing the show at 10-3 by a loss in the SEC title game.

I don't trust this committee at all, but like you, I recognize we have ourselves to blame for being in this predicament. What I would like to see in the future though, since we all know we can never go back to how things used to be, is some kind of complete consolidation of the conferences, a break away from the G5, and auto bids for divisional champions a la the NFL. NO committee.

Succinct comment. Based, even. Should not have lost the OU game. Beat ourselves. Largely did the same in 2024, but some help from the officials sealed the deal for the Sooners.

Did all of us kind of have the feeling that letting OU and Texas into the conference was going to have some ill effects? Compare that to who the Big 10 admitted in - Oregon, USC, and a couple of others who are perennially 8-4, 7-5. Oregon wins a lot of games, and they play tough. USC lost relevancy a decade plus ago.

*raises hand*

OU/Texas was not the same as Mizzou/Texas A&M.

Granted, they've not set the world on fire either, and neither will ever do in the SEC what they did in the SWC/Big 8/Big 12. But I'm sure they've brought in millions of dollars and will continue to do so.

Just like in games where one bad officiating call makes the difference in winning or losing, we shouldn't have played ourselves into the place where one bad call CAN make the difference in winning or losing.

The Iron Bowl beckons. Historically, this game is won by the better team. Even in 2013, Auburn was not a slouch team, and we were ranked #1 and #2 coming in, if memory recalls. Sure, they won by the flukiest play of all fluky plays, and Auburn did it the week before that against Georgia as well.

I contend that late September, all of October, not only was Alabama the better team, but it was a very large margin. We played disciplined, we didn't turn the ball over. We learned to pass block, we dropped less passes, and the defense came into the state it's still at. Very good, not great.

From the SCAR game on, we've been a different team. For Auburn, there was Freeze, then post-Freeze. Two different teams. Our 8-2 and 5-6 records mask that the two teams are very, very close at this point in 2025.

It shouldn't just be about wins and losses but quality of the schedule. The ACC and BIG10 are jokes of conferences from top to bottom. No way those 1 and 2 loss teams have those records playing in the SEC. The best 7 teams should be chosen after the automatic qualifiers. It will be a shame if Vandy goes 10 and 2 and doesn't get in. Notre Dame played 2 tough games and lost both, other 10 are jokes. They don't deserve to be in.
