Why has Bama been terrible on both sides of the line for 4 or 5 years?

Show me the hardware Mike Leach won with his offense...
Oh, I agree. Not advocating for the full-bore Leach offense. Just noting its similarities to our scheme.

We aren’t ever going to be a team that routinely pounds the ball 40 times a game for 250 yards under DeBoer, but we need to get to a level where the run game is at least respectable. I don’t think DeBoer wants to run the full fledged Leach scheme because we have some power formations and we use tight ends.

Well being the big Alabama fan that you are, you will be happy to remember how Alabama is fairing against her 4 biggest rivals, despite her D not being perfect:

UGA: Alabama has won 10 of 12, CKD 2-1
UT: Alabama has won 17 of 19, CKD 1-1
LSU: Alabama has won 15 of 18, CKD 2-0
AU: Alabama has won 14 of 18, 6 in a row, CKD 2-0

From the internet on 5* Keon Keely:
He was rated by the On3 recruiting service as the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2023 college football recruiting class with a 99.35 rating. Rivals.com rated him as the No. 5 recruit nationally. He was also rated as the top pass rusher in the 2023 college football recruiting class.

So what did Alabama decide-- he needed to gain significantly more, no longer a credible outside linebacker?

Grew a bunch... too big for OLB. Now learnign a new position and getting used to SEC level physicality.

I am hopeful we see him reach the promised land next year.

In the late 1960's CPB went to primarily a passing attack led by Scott Hunter. We scored a lot of points, but also lost a lot of games as our defense became porous. He then changed to the wishbone, modifying it according to the talents of his QB, and rest, as they say, is history.

Later CPB said that if you primarily pass the ball then your defense will become soft as they do not practice as much against the run. That was the primary reason he gave when asked why he did not throw more.

A former Bama player during those days said that the wishbone required you to be tough -- and it was all about the other team's defense getting weary of being beat on.

All this is to say that IMHO CKD needs to run the ball at least 40% of the time in order to not only have a good offense but to also have a good defense. At least that's what CPB thought....

DL hasn't been nearly as bad, but we haven't had a truly dominant disrupter since Barmore. I'd blame that on some recruiting misses. Peter Woods comes to mind.
That’s all I’m saying. Defense has been ok, but where is the occasional interior lineman pressure? Overton was off to a good start, but he has been injured lately.

I warn you not to look back.

For instance, a glance at our 218 roster will leave you weeping quietly.

QB - Tua, Jalen Hurts, Mac Jones
RB - Damien Harris, Joshua Jacobs, Najee Harris, Brian Robinson, Jerome Ford
RB - Jeudy, Ruggs, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle

It's the same on defense. No offense to our guys today, I mean nobody else TODAY has a roster anything like that, not even Ohio State. but we are not as talented as we were and it started after 2020, not when DeBoer arrived.
Exactly!
