There is a very strong rumour running around that Auburn may hire Buffalo head coach Turner Gill to be the next head coach of AU football.

I got my information from WAFF channel 48 and I don't know about ya'll but I don't know coach Gill can run with coach Saban when ever it comes to recruiting.

Seems like a good hire at face value if it is true but I am not sure about Gill's recruiting ability and pressure handling ability.

Turner Gill is a fine young coach. He'd be crazy to accept the position.

You talk about under the microscope from day one.

I can't imagine this but the barn can pull some surprises.

I still think they'll hire Bobby Lowder and Aubie will be replaced as team mascot by the Yella Wood guy.

He looks like a mascot to me on his TV commercials. He damn sure doesn't look like a CEO.

Auburn will probably change their colors to "Green" and Burnt Orange.

Auburn's in trouble.

He is a good, young coach. They could probably do worse. I think he has a big future in College Coaching but is he ready for the pressure cooker of the SEC at this time?

Agreed. If moo u wants to wait 5-8 years for Gill to mature/learn to compete in the SEC, that's a good hire. Somehow, I don't think they'll be willing to wait that long...

I think Turner Gill is going to make a great coach to some big time football program someday. But I don't think any young, up and coming coach (be it black, white, green or blue) is setting himself up for success by jumping into the SEC. Lane Kiffin is about to find that out at Tennessee.

imo aubarn has a short list of who they want. trouble is it isnt convienient for both parties to do the deal. the barn is going to give a young guy a shot ,and save some cash in the process. when their dream date i.e. coach becomes available their young coach will be easy to turn loose.the barn believes they are worthy of a saban caliber coach but they are going to have to deal with the painful truth.

I hope TG don't end up at auburn. I think he is too good for them, would hate to see him get into that mess. They need to stick to thugs and/or nuts like wingnut or bowden and leave the good ones alone.

I read on ESPN's tracker where he is getting an interview and has had an interview last week for the 'Cuse job. It also said that AU is getting to interview Ball State's coach.

Charlie Strong would be on my list if I were looking for a head coach for AU. Personally, I would be looking for someone with some experience working within the conference. We take our football pretty seriously around here. Oh wait, we're talking about Auburn-scratch that previous sentence. :)

I think he'd be a good hire. But I think whoever gets this Auburn job is in trouble. I don't think they'll get enough time to truly fix their issues. I think Gill would do better at Syracuse where the expectations aren't so high and he doesn't have to directly compete with a beast known as Saban with recruiting and on the field (you can really throw Richt in there as well).

I may be wrong and Gill may fit the bill, but unless they get a dynamic recruiter that can go out of the state and bring in talent and coach on the field, they're in trouble
