I like it, Hiring Turner Gill would set the program back 2-3 years. Does anyone think that if they bring in an outsider that the good ole boys are going to let him bring in his own staff? He would be like Franklin realizing after 7-10 days he's make a mistake. Within three years he either skips town like fran or we see jetgate II. These people are not going to give him 2-3 years to right the ship. 'cuse is his safest bet till he gets more experience under his belt.

Lou Holtz stated that Skip Holtz is interested in the Syracuse job, and he is interviewing with the AD soon. Holtz is SU's first choice right now, Turner Gill is second.

If I were a college football coach, you'd have to pay me a lotta money to take the Auburn position with that machine still in Tuscaloosa. Would you want to compete with Nick Saban every day of the year?
I agree with you, but even if Bama was not a factor, I would NOT want the Auburn job. It is like the Oakland Raiders of college football. You will be micromanaged to death, and you will always have someone looking over your shoulder.

The Auburn coaching job could be a career-killer for any young, up-and-coming coach.

I think it was a dreadful mistake for AU to fire Tubs. That being said, I can't see any up-and-coming coach going to the Barn. Think about it this way: in the three most fertile recruiting grounds for AU, any coach will have to go head-to-head with Saban, Richt, of Meyer. They just FIRED a coach who had beaten Alabama 7 out of 10 years.

How would you like to come into a situation where you will have to do at least that well against Nick Saban in order to live up to the record of your predecessor?

My honest opinion is that the Miss. State job is more desirable at the moment than the AU job. The expectations are more reasonable, and Crooms recruited decently well. AU is a train-wreck in mid-crash.

Yep and you have Saban to the N, Meyer to the S, Miles to the W, and Richt to the E. That is a formidable bunch of coaches and recruiters to have to compete against.

What do you mean by "that machine still in Tuscaloosa"? :)

I don't think hiring Gill will solve their problems. They will soon realize, if they haven't already they shouldn't have fired Tubby. The SEC is not the place for a young coach with little to no head coaching experience. If you don't believe me ask Shula, Croom and DuBose. You can add Lane Kiffin to that list in a few years.
