Will Coach run up the score if given the opportunity?

Coach Shula wasn't too happy with last year's game vs Trailerparkansas. A subpar performance by our guys, and then an unnecessary TD in the final minute of the game by the pigs. If you remember, CMS wouldn't shake the Nutt's hand after the game. Do you think he'll pile it on if they can on Saturday? I for one certainly hope so. I like to see Bama win every game by 50. I like to see them start going for 2 after the second TD just so that can get more points. If you can't stop them, well, practice and get a better defense. That's just me...

If he does decide to try and run up the score, then I think he'll attempt it with JPW. I'd say he'll let him throw the ball around a bit...assuming we have the opportunity.

I don't think so. I think if the game is well in hand, we will put in JPW and our 2nd string to get some experience. I think that is much more important than revenge.

And I say "if" because I think Arkansas may be tougher than many are expecting. I think they will have something to prove after their huge loss to USC last week. Houston Nutt will also have something to prove. A win over us would be huge for them.

Personally, running up the score doesn't really bother me though. Its our team's job to keep the other team from scoring. If we can't stop them, then the other team scores. Its just as simple as that to me. I wouldn't want our team to run up the score, but if the other team is in a position to do so, I'm not going to hold it against them if our team can't stop them.

No, I can't ever see Shula trying to run up the score. Remember Brodie taking a new on the Ole Miss 5? last year? Last week against USC, Brodie left the game very early in the 4th. If we were to have a big lead, Shula would probably have JPW run the offense per normal and if we continued scoring so be it, but never intentionally running up the score. I believe Shula has more class than that and I'm surprised at Pete Carroll. I thought NFL guys didn't like to do that because you usually had to face that team again in the season and, with the parity, you could easily find yourself on the receiving end next year. Any running up the score talk scares me, let's just hope we win this game and leave that nonsense to the UGA fans (who were sorely surprised).

No. CMS was raised better than that. This program will take the high road on all levels.

I posted about this in another thread. I don't see a problem of continuing to play the game as normal if the coach has removed all the starters and is giving his second stringers (your future first stringers) an opportunity to play. These guys work just as hard in practice and most of the time only get rewarded with after the game celebrations and handshakes or a handful of snaps during a game. But for the most part they are watching and taking a beating during the week.

I think Coach Shula has a responsibility to remove his starters when the game has been decided. But to go as far as to tell your second string guys to "not score", "take knees", and do everything you can to keep from scoring is absolutely going beyond his responsibility.

If that team's first stringers can't stop our second stringers then guess what, that "ain't" our problem. That is why that head coach makes six figures in salary. Once our first stringers have been pulled then Bama's future takes priority over someone's pride. That is our time to get our subs (future starters) some quality playing time and get them use to playing and trying to score in game situations. Our responsibility (once starters are taken out) is NOT to worry about the feelings or pride of the other team. As stated before, that is why that coach makes six figures.

Arkansauce only needs to worry about stopping Bama's first and second team. I don't think our depth goes past that. ;)

I don't have a problem with running up the score, but keeping your starters in a game when the outcome isn't in any doubt is stupid for two reasons:

1.) You are putting them in danger of injury for no reason beyond some personal desire to humiliate the other team. If you attempt to humiliate the other team and lose a critical starting player in the process, then you end up humiliating yourself.

2.) You are cheating younger players of badly-needed game experience which will improve the depth and quality of the team as a whole in the interest of adding unneeded points in a contest that is already decided. That lack of game experience in the depth chart might end up COSTING points in some future contest when you REALLY need them.

If a coach inserts his second or third string into the game and they are scoring points, then that is just dandy. Endangering your starters unnecessarily and depriving the younger players of experience shows a lack of sound judgement.

Another thing, you don't want to give an opponent any additional motivation for the next year.

They had something to prove after their home loss to Vandy as well.

There's a thin line between getting embarassed and being motivated to do something about it and getting embarassed and deciding to quit. They look like a team that may have crossed that line.

I think CMS should run a normal offense in the late third or early fourth with 2nd-3rd teamers. but with about 7-8 minutes in the 4th, grind it out and kill the clock. I am still looking for the killer instinct of this team, most good teams have it, I think Bama displayed it against USM to some extent and definitely against USC.

I'm more worried about beating a team we haven't beaten in 2 years. I'm not a score or stat counter, that's for the sportswriters. Most importantly, reestablish "true" home field advantage and NO INJURIES. If we can do those things, then we have nothing to worry about. I don't want another W. Carolina game where we are still throwing the ball with a 4 TD lead, and risk injury to our players. Let us not forget, after last year, it only takes one play to ruin a season. ROLL TIDE, AND BEAT THE PIGGIES

I will be satisfied with a one point win.

We sure have gotten a little arrogant lately.
Amen!! I have been worried about this game all year. More so now that the pigs are down and we are probably looking ahead to next week. I expect it to be closer than most apparently, but I get up for almost every game.

Brodie's ACL had nothing to do with gameplay.

I really wish some people would understand the dynamics of football and health.

You can pop an ACL walking your dog or running to your nearest gasoline dealer.
