Word is in Vol land that if the season started today, that he would not be able to play due to grades. There still is the second summer session, and he is the starting tailback, so I believe he will miracously find the Dean's List during the second term and squeak into eligibility.

I am sure he will get some "academic help" before the season starts.

Get my drift?

Oh my! He magically got a few hundreds on some papers that he had never passed before! How did that happen?

I know I've shared this with you all before, but due to the new info, I'll share it with you again.

A friend who went to Red Bank told me this. He was good friends with one of the coaches there.

Riggs walked into the coaches office at Red Bank HS as a senior during exam week. Coach Weathers asked him what exams he had the next day. Mr. Riggs said something like English and Geometry (this may be the wrong subjects, but you get the picture). Coach Weathers told him, "You better sit by somebody smart."

Roll Tide!!

As big and fast as Gerald Riggs is, I'm surprised to hear he has academic issues. :conf3:

UT must be good to go at tailback. ;)

No way he's ineligible, he goes to tennesee.

Short of murder (and only then if phil can't intervene some way) would he likely miss a couple of games. I'm sure even in that case phil could arrange for him to get out on bail during football season. The judges in tennesee wouldn't dare keep the boy from playing.

1. A lot of fuss has been made on failing to redshirt him his freshman year when Jabari, cedric, Tinsley were sophomores. The staff thought his grades might be an issue. And they were right.

2. It is true that everyone feels he will be playing in the fall, but I question why would it be such a big deal now? Why raise the issue of inelgibility? That leads me to believe he is in serious trouble. JMO

Of course, there will be no problem as the NCAA will turn a blind eye yet again at Tutorsee. There will be insufficient evidence, no academic fraud there!

Gerald Riggs is not dumb -- he's bone lazy. It's not that he can't do the work, he's too lazy to do it. Same thing at Red Bank HS. Of course he'll play. He will take two chair stacking classes -- or have someone do them for him -- and score A's in summer school.

UT is Exempt From Academic Requirements

In response to the public outcry against grade-fixing and garbage course content (e.g. walking and chair stacking), the NCAA has already stated that a university's academic rules are its own. In other words, UT can do whatever it wants with its own courses, and there's nothing the NCAA will do about it. Alabama is subject to another set of rules, but we all already know that.

UT is already famous for getting unlimited time for standardized tests, and getting the Learning Disabled label (along with its preferential academic treatment) for football players.

If the NCAA doesn't care what UT does -- and they don't -- and the university itself doesn't care -- and it doesn't -- is there any doubt that Riggs will be eligible in the fall?

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that UT has nominated this "guy" for the Rhodes Scholarship.

Well, for anyone who knows the joke about passing his math exams to become eligible. Dirtytree and terd + dirtytree and a terd + dirtytree and a terd = 100, coach.

As of September, Riggs will be hooked on phonics. Good luck on that literacy thing, Mr Riggs.
Why isn't Phonics spelled like it sounds? Fil Fulmer wouldn't know.......
