Will someone put 8/9 in the box against us?

I'm excited, and this was a great win....Defense was lights out. My thought is though, does anybody load the box up on us for an entire game? I think McCarron is ok, but he does not scare me throwing the ball if I'm the opposing team. I think he is immature (see exhibit A, before halftime when Saban thankfully got on his tail). I am pessimistic I realize this, but if anyone gameplans 100% against the run, and succeeds in that aspect, I dont see AJ beating anybody. Thank God we have one of the best defenses I have ever witnessed step onto a football field

By the time he has to play big (LSU) he'll be playing bigger. Plus LSUs offense doesnt worry me at all. I dont see them scoring a touchdown. Shepard and Randle are great athletes but still not great receivers and their run game isnt as good as one might expect. I dont think anyone can beat this team in the SEC. And outside the SEC I'd say Wisconsin and OU have the best chance. Wisconsins D is too soft and I think their O is still overrated because lets face it Nebraskas D isnt what its been the past. OU is probably our toughest test. We have a clear edge on defense and I think they have the edge on offense but I think the defensive edge is greater than their offensive edge but I need to see them play an athletic team like Texas.

I would try it. Might as well try to stop what you KNOW works (the run) and see how it shakes out. Regardless of what we think, at some point, someone is gonna try to put together a gameplan that forces AJ to be lights-out.

You are right...but what has he had to do honestly? Give it to Trent 29 times tonite? I hope that continues to work. I do think he is our best option right now. I'm just being devil's advocate. The barn gameplanned Lattimore out of USC today, and they are one of the worst defenses I've ever seen. AJ will have to make some throws at some point for us to get where we wanna go this year. And they won't be able to be throws that are 2 yd screen passes through a defenders hand that TR takes 60 yds to the house.

You put 8 or 9 in the box from the get go and any decent OC worth his salt will pick you apart. AJ would pass for 400+ and Maze and Hanks would have career days. Coach Mac would quickly adjust and AJ has the talent.

It was a great win, but as Nick would be the first to admit, we can always do better. We didn't show balance on O, but we took what the Florida D gave us and that is what you have to do. I'm confident that AJ will continue to develop, I think it is WAY too early to give up on him as a passer...Remember, in our O all we need for him to do is throw for around 250yds/game.

Not being confrontational, but I dont see how you can think this honestly? What has been said as a "great ability to check down" in the first 2 games or so, looks to me like an inability to look down field. I think he is zeroed in on the RB or safety valve receiver. This isnt a 100% horrible thing, but it isnt gonna beat anybody....

We can game plan teams out of 8 man fronts with formations though. It's tough to bring 8 into the box against 3+ WRs.

That many in the box puts 2 or 3 on an island against our receivers. There's no way that would happen to begin with, but if it did, coach Mac would eat that alive. There's a reason nobody's tried it yet....it's because they can't. The DC's in this league are good, and if they could, they would.

This is what I hope can continue to happen....as long as we can gameplan people where we need them, and we dont over think ourselves, we can run the ball to a national title....I'm just hoping that our running game never stalls, bc we will be in trouble

7 different players caught passes tonight, to start. I mean, I know he threw a lot of interceptions...oh wait, he didn't. And I don't want to be confrontational, but given that we are 5-0, this ranks as one of the most ridiculous things ever said on Tidefans.
This was taken out of context. I am not saying he isnt taking what the defense has given him so far and won games. I realize we are 5-0....I just dont think throwing 80% of your passes to check downs will win games down the line. I'm sorry that I feel like we will have to have somewhat of a downfield passing game to defeat LSU and Auburn, but I just think it has to get better than it is, or I will be uncomfortable.

I think oysterman makes a valid point in regard to our passing game, it needs work and we need improvement in that area. Other than that, we seem to be clicking on all cylinders.

I remember alot of the same things being said about GMac, remember that TD pass drought in the middle of the 09 season. I was beside myself about it, but look how that turned out. AJ will continue to grow. He is not screwing up, and he is getting us into good plays. He will take on more of the offensive load as the season goes, but when you have the horses we have in the backfield this is just how it's going to be. He will not put up big numbers, and many games may seem less than acceptable to the fan base.
