Okay,

I know I'm not a regular poster of the Gospel....but I read almost everyday. I love Bama football and basketball, and being located in the heart of LSU country, is tough....but....it could be worse (LSU got beat bad last night)

With that said.......

Before we begin to create demons here larger than the Empire State Building, can we think about a few things here?

1. We don't have David Hobbs as the coach anymore!!
2. Can we consider that Coach Gottfried may have used these games as a way to test some strategies, or mix different groups of players to determine some things??? Can we give him some credit for possibly not wanting to tip his hand prior to what could be the biggest game for our team in 15 years? He might be playing a bit close to the vest (this game vs OU gives us instant credibility as a NC threat...with the Media if we win!!)
3. We are virtually the same team as last year except for Rod....so, chemistry shouldn't be a problem....in fact after a year with Mo...it could be better
4. There were years (under Hobbs) where we would win our two Exhibition games by 20+ pts each, and then go 19-12 or 17-15...etc....THAT'S WHY THEY ARE CALLED EXHIBITION GAMES!!! Can you say WASHINGTON REDSKINS!!!???
5. Lets think of this as raising kids... Praise in public, criticize in private... let's assume....the best, not the worst

as far as predictions go, 26-5......Final Four.....Mo goes to the NBA after the season is over!!.......I'm not as smart as most of you, but......when the season is over, you can all come over and rub my head for luck!!

Roll Tide (Some of us still believe!!)

Cajun, this is just my opinion here and it its not meant as a flame.

First off, I also have concerns about the way the team is playing, and will voice them, so that makes me an enemy of the state I guess? I love the team just like you do.

Secondly, maybe you are right, but I can't help but wonder if we're just struggling right now. It might be as simple as that.

Just my thoughts, and like I said, it is no way a knock on you, but look at the way the team has played in the pre-season. Gonna raise some questions.

PChop, I agree to an extent. My thought now is that we will not have the W/L's we did last year, but will go deeper in the tournament. Unlike football, it matters at the end...true playoff.

RTR!!!

To add a bit PChop, because we know each other.

You are never an "enemy of the state" by stating your opinions, at least the way I see it. It's called "fan", and the very best are not the ones that go "whooo, hooo", but the ones who think, combined with loyalty. Any idiot can yell "Roll Tide", or "War Eagle", or "Go Blue", or "Boomer Sooner", and so on. The difficult part is engaging the mind with loyalty.

I love the Tide, as I know you do. And, if you don't continue hanging out here, I must contact my Sicilian cousins...other side of the family.

RTR!!!

RTR, it's still the off-season bro. I'll be here when things pick up.

First off, like you said, it's called fan. I don't actually beleive what I posted to be true all of the time. I was just being sarcastic. That does seem to be the common perception however, sometimes. That is in no way a reference to Cajun. No flame intended there at all. It's a general statement about the way our boards work over here at Tidefans sometimes, and that is not a knock at the mods, but the posters.

If one does not blindly follow like some kind of Cambodian Re-educational Camp survivor, them they therefor are an enemy of the state. I see it all the time on the football board and sometimes on the other boards. There's a perception that if you say anything negitive, then therefor you can't possibly be a true fan.

I don't buy it.

Sometimes we all need to smell the coffee, and if you're here to be sheilded from the realities of what's really going on, then you are in the wrong place. Go to one of those Bama boards whoes posters specialize in posting crap like ...RTR, Rammer Jammer, and have no apparent message to provide, but are happy to just be around.

It amazes me every time I hear someone post something ridiculing a member who "has an opinion" as being a non-fan.

I think we should all support the team but sometimes supporting does not mean blindly following. Heck, sometimes we go over the edge with our posts but it's that same passion that keeps us a Tide fan.

Thank God this is not Cambodia, sometimes.

I also do not believe we will have the W's & L's like last year.
Loosing Rod to me is going to hurt us. Yes Rod was VERY streaky, but his streaks helped us win big games. Plus the opponents had to always worry about Rod, Mo, & Dudley. Not to say somebody will not step up & take up Rod's slack.
But I do think come Tourn. time we will go further. I see our season looking like Kentucky's last year or Indiana's.

Well,

I'm not saying that criticism isn't allowed. I'm not even saying that one can't have an opinion.

What I was trying to say is........

Let's wait to complain after we have something to complain about. I don't think that fiddling around in two exhibition games that we WON.......warranted the negative reactions we were getting. If we started off 0-3.......okay........but Damn!

If after watching last night, there are still some complaints.......then I'm not sure what you would like CMG to do.... The players had too many turnovers, and didn't shoot free throws well, and there were times where we looked out of sync........

But it was the first game of the season against the #3 team in the country, who was a final four team from last year

AND WE DOMINATED THEM!!! EVEN PLAYING SLOPPY AT TIMES, WE GAVE THEM A GIGANTIC WHOOP-DEE-DOO SLAP RIGHT ACROSS THE MOUTH!!!

So, can we just give Coach a chance........look what he's done so far!!

and.....like you all have opinions and feel the right to criticize......I have the right to defend, and praise!! I wonder which one makes these hard working kids on our team feel better? I wonder which they appreciate more? I wonder what kind of fans that they would prefer to play for?

Before 50 year old men give themselves too much credit........for trying to knock the talents of 20 year old studs who just whipped Oklahoma.......or the Coaching of a man who tutored with Coach Wooden...maybe they would do a few situps, drink a little less beer, and be a good fan.

I know I'm gonna get flamed, but sports has way too many negatives in it. Love your team, and be disappointed when they lose, but don't be so critical of them until we have reason to be.....we don't have Hobbs and Dubose anymore........

I made a comment to my wife about Rod Grizzard last night. I want to see if anyone agrees.

While those nights where he was red hot will be missed, there were too many nights, where he was just as cold. I mean cold in that he was barely a contributor. I think, if you average that out over the season, in terms of wins and losses, we win maybe one or two more close games because of a key shot by Grizzard. Look at his PPG, as a median average, not a virtual average. In other words, throw out the outlier nights. The nights when he had 30+, and the nights when he had 6 pts or less. Not very impressive numbers when you look at like that.

I think he will be missed AT TIMES, but it isn't enough to mean we don't get at least to the Sweet 16.

Agreed. Rod brought some things to the table last year, but I think we'll be alright. We dominated a tough OU squad that many predicted to cut the nets down this year. If we play like this throughout the season (minus those 20+ turnovers that we had), we will be much better than "okay". We got a whole season left to play, and I'm gonna love every minute of it

You can't appreciate what RG meant to last year's team just by looking at scoring. To say the least hewas an erratic scorer. (But, his offense did win several games for us last season, most notably the Notre Dame and South Carolina games). He was a strong rebounder, even though he hardly has a rebounder's physique. He was a good passer. He had a lot of assists for someone who was not the primary ball handler. He also was among the team leader in steals.

Will we be better without him? Maybe, but not because he is gone, but because other players step up their games and we have more depth. While Emmett Thomas did some things well last night, he didn't look like much of a scoring threat or a ball handler. Using a smaller three, such as Ernest Shelton, can give us match up problems.I'll be willing to bet now, without seeing him step on the court, that Kennedy Winston will not be the rebounder or the defender that RG was. RG probably made a mistake in opting for the NBA, but just because he did not make it doesn't mean that he was not an important part of last year's team.
