Best inside runners
What Scouts Inc. looks for: These players have the ability to square their shoulders, get downhill and attack the hole. You have seen us use the term "pick and slide" in our reports, and this is used to describe a back's ability to avoid with patience, find the seams and move laterally in-line through the tight creases. These runners must always fall forward, finish runs and be able to break initial contact.
1. Trent Richardson (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia)
There may be more shifty runners between the tackles, but it's difficult to find a more explosive and productive in-line back in this class than Richardson. He hits the hole with great urgency and burst out of his cuts. He quickly gets his rock-solid, 219-pound body headed downhill and is just a bruising, powerful back. Don't let his violent running style and great yards after contact production fool you, ESPN's No. 1 overall back can decisively hit the cutback and dart through traffic with great suddenness.
