If USC has to vacate the wins and the title; and there was a revote for Auburn as the NC, would you accept it?

If so, that would be 5 straight for the SEC.

If not, why?

Because they played VT in the Sugar. I would be much more amenable to accepting OU as the champ because they made it to the big game. I think that is the key.

I say we get the '04 barn team and the '04 OU team on a field and let them play it out :)

I don't know, it just seems like, if USC had to forfeit that game, then the team they were playing would be declared winners - and they should get the crown. Isn't that usually how a forfeit works?

although the wins we got taken away in '07, didn't become wins for the other team.

So i don't know. I think there should be no MNC that year...But then again, I am extremely biased.

If it was bama, I am sure I would want it - but if they gave it to us, it would be kind of cheap, you know?

Any vacated BCS title goes to the other team that played in the BCSNCG, and I would say the same if Auburn and Oklahoma's roles were reversed.

How many AU for 2004 NC threads are there here ?
  • First of all, as far as we now know, the timeframe in question is the 2005 season, not the 2004 season.
  • The AP will not revote. In fact, AU's only NC was while they were on probation.
  • The BCS will almost certainly vacate. If not, how can the give the title to a team that did not even make the game ? They won't.
  • No, they don't deserve the title. USC was far and away the best team in the nation that year, even if they are disqualified.
AU will not get a belated 2004 NC.

The AP announced today that in the instance of USC's 2004 NC being vacated, there will be NO revote. On other words, Auburn can forget this pipe dream.

I was under the impression the BCS would leave the game vacated like Bama and FSU have had in recent years. Bama323 says the AP won't revote so the Aubs can forget about it.

Well .. I for one will go on record as saying I think Auburn was robbed that year by not being in the game.
That said, if they weren't IN the game, they had no chance to WIN the game. Therefore, I would be in favor of Oklahoma getting the crown ... even though they played like patsies.

Wait, OU played in that game? I wasn't aware they even showed up. ;)

IMO the right way to handle it would be to list the title as vacated. The next best is award it to Oklahoma since they were the #2 team going into the championship game. Auburn has no claim.

Assume the same exact circumstances but it was a 13-0 Bama instead of Auburn---

What would your answer be?

If USC's wins are vacated I'd award Auburn the 2004 National Title in a heartbeat.

Any SEC team that goes 13-0 is the best team in college football. There's no debate, no question, no doubt. At least in my mind.

I understand that they're our biggest rival, but the fact is, in 2004, they were a great football team and we were struggling to find our way back to mediocrity.

That's not Auburn's fault. It was ours.

The past is the past. It has nothing to do with today.

And the Barn receiving a post dated National Championship will have no effect on the future of our program nor their's.

In my opinion...YES....they would deserve it.

I agree with ya Alasip, AU finished the season ranked number 2 in the final poll. Therefore IMO they should move to #1 if it becomes vacant.

Yes,
I'm with Boca Lance. I think the Barn was better than Oklahoma that year and should've been in the game. I still think USC would've won though...don't matter though, my team wins championships outright.
And I know if the roles were reversed and Bama was left out the boogs wouldn't say Bama deserved it. That's why they're boogs.

When they go back and vote on the 1966 champion I'll think about accepting the barn as NC in 2004. They may have gotten screwed in 2004 but nothing like what Bama got in 66. A two time defending NC and they go undefeated and finish 3rd????????????? Tha barn can KMA about 2004. Still bitter, yes just a bit.:mad2:
