Solomon Patton recently said that he may visit Alabama today. Whether or not he does that remains to been seen. The latest report out of Florida says that that Patton is going to visit Florida next weekend and that they are likely to get a commitment from him.

Re: WR Solomon Patton Update (6/07)

Apparently Patton is in Tuscaloosa today, and you certainly get the feeling that if we really want to get this kid, we better get something done today. At this point, I would say he is widely expected to commit to Florida next week at their camp, based solely on the rumblings that are out there.

I would like to see us get Patton, but again I'm not too worried if he goes to Florida. As I've said many times before, we are looking for one player at that position, and I've contested for a while now that Grant is probably higher on our board. To me, Patton is one of those kids who I would certainly like to see us get, but I don't think it's a big loss if we don't get him (provided we get either Grant or Johnson).

Either way, it looks like we'll have some firm news on Patton's destination in the near future.

I guess things could still change, but Patton is one that I've never been convinced would end up at Bama.

I kind of feel the same way about Corey Grant, but I wonder if Patton-to-Florida would help sway things in our favor with Grant?

I would like to have Grant before Patton but the Mobile pipe line must not be broken. I just read on another site that Patton will sign with the gators before the end of the week. I hope he puts it off for awhile.:BigA::BigA::conf2:

Re: WR Solomon Patton Update (6/07)

Whats up with this guy? I thought Saban had Mobile all to himself.
Did CNS just start recently getting interested in him and the other guy or
was he always a gturd? Im trying to get a hold on why all of a sudden
everyone thinks vince meyer can just march in and get who he wants
in parts of Al if our staff is so good at holding down the state.

I'm guessing - no inside info. This is probably the converse of Trent Richardson where Patton is just a bad fit for Bama's offense and a perfect fit for UF's. These kids are bright enough to see where they fit best - it makes a big difference. I don't think it is that big of a deal.

I think Bham largely has it right. Patton is a good prospect, but admittedly he's a much better fit for Urban Meyer's spread option scheme. His mom has actually pushed him pretty hard to 'Bama, but again I think it's an issue of scheme fit.

Furthermore, I'll reiterate that I still do not know how big of a priority he is for us at this point. I've speculated in the past that he might not have a firm offer, and even if he does I am still not convinced that he is necessarily a major priority for us. We are obviously looking for a speedy guy in the slot, but we have several prospects who fit that mold, and once again I'll reiterate that I think Corey Grant is probably higher on our board for that position than Patton. As long as the rumblings on Grant being a bit of a 'Bama lean turn out to be true, I doubt that our staff will be shedding any tears if Patton goes to Gainesville.

Finally, I wouldn't worry about Meyer coming into Alabama and getting talent. I really do not think Patton is a big priority for us, and at any rate he's a better natural fit at Florida. That does not have the looking of a major recruiting coup to me. And besides, in a worst-case scenario, we traded Patton for Trent Richardson... I'll take that one any day.

I have to agree. Like BET has already said, I believe Patton is a good prospect I'm just not sure where he fits in our offense. At this point I'd rather have Corey Grant anyway, I believe he's a little more versatile and would be a better fit in the slot for us than would Patton. JMHO.

Re: WR Solomon Patton Update (6/07)

Not sure what you mean?
personally, i've always thought Terry Grant is better suited for Florida's offense. he's a small, speedy, scat-type back who, as we've all seen, hasn't gotten many touches since the 07' season. Em(m?)anuel Moody is Florida's "big back" that really isn't suited well for their offense. see what i'm getting at?

Re: WR Solomon Patton Update (6/07)

There is a coach out of Mobile who is saying that we shouldn't jump the ship on Patton just yet. He says he heard straight from Patton that the family is concerned with the NCAA's decision and they hope to get some information on that soon. He said the decision between Ala and Fla is closer than we know. He is not saying that if the NCAA ruling is lenient that Solomon is ours but it is not over yet.

Gotcha, that didn't quite make sense to me the first time around either.

Hmm, very interesting stuff. I guess we'll find out soon enough, though, both on Patton and the NCAA's decision.

well, the NCAA ruling is about as good as it can be on the Solomon Patton front. fingers crossed.

True. If he had any real fears over the NCAA stuff, those fears should be put to rest by now.

We'll see, though. I think that UA has probably been pretty open and honest with the 2010 recruits about what they were expecting, so it might not make a big difference. I still think he ends up at Florida, but we'll see.
