It's funny, but true that they deserve it:

I wonder if they'll go as far as buying themselves People's National Championship rings? You know, someone posted earlier on this board that they would remind us a lot of the Barners once we got to 'know' them... :eek2:

Since they feel totally disenfranchised, I don't blame them. I am glad that we don't have to do that, but I won't ridicule them for it. They did everything in their power, including scheduling (and beating) Big 10 and PAC 10 teams as OOC opponents.

Auburn played in the SEC. They had a chance to play in the game and blew it with a horrible OOC schedule. Different story, altogether. JMHO...

I cannot say I wouldn't be screaming bloody murder if I found myself in their spot right now. It's hard to argue with an undefeated record...and a thorough whipping of a BCS team from the SEC in the Sugar Bowl to end the season. While I don't think they are a better team than Florida, they certainly deserve consideration.

I think #2 is where they belong, though, and they should be very proud of that ranking coming from a non-BCS conference.

If there are any Ute fans reading this, please do not let your team stoop to the Barners' level and order National Championship rings when you finished #2...it's not good form and you are only embarrassing yourselves when you do stuff like that.

I will.
I wonder if their championship parade will be on trail groomers instead of tractors.

Or maybe snowmobiles.

The SEC schedule isn't one game.

And that's what it all comes down to. Yeah, it's hypothetical, but Utah wouldn't be able to handle the SEC week in and week out with the rivalries, home field advantage, media attention, etc., etc. SEC football is beyond anything the Utes have ever experienced.

I have plenty of aluminum foil and a little spare time :)
No! They are not the champs. The Gators are...

If Utah played an SEC schedule, they would not be 12-0. JMHO

Or 13-0

Why they don't lobby to get into the Pac 10 or some other conference is beyond me.

Seriously, why does this question keep getting asked? There are a few fans in the 'Bama camp that are completely ignorant of the situation outside of Alabama.

Utah would jump to the PAC-1 in a heartbeat. They have done everything in their power to lobby for it, the sports fit, the academics fit, the region fits. But they've locked their door and aren't inviting anyone in. It isn't as simple as Utah saying "I think we'll play in the Pac-1 now". You need to be invited.

Utah isn't trying to keep the schedule light. They want the challenge, they want the shot at the title. Our coaching is top notch, we've got great facilities and a great location. If we added inclusion in a BCS conference to our arsenal our recruiting would get even better. Our schemes and coaching are competitive without the "BCS talent" imagine if we could increase our recruiting and our depth.

Utah is a team that could potentially have two Championships this decade if a playoff was in place. That is something that any of the elite college programs would hope for. But a crappy system keeps us out of the running. We'd love the access and inclusion but the system is what it is.

Sorry for the rant. I just get tired of ignorant people saying "just move to a new conference then." It just doesn't work like that.

I don't know about that. I think we had a pretty decent SEC experience last Friday. ;)

That dome was crawling with 'Bama fans. You guys filled the place and it was impressive. You also were loud, the dome with so many people cheering when you guys were getting a little momentum back was crazy loud.

I'm just glad our short handed d-line was able to handle your short handed o-line.

Sure it wasn't a week in and week out sort of thing but it was a hostile environment.

Edit: Did you like my parade pictures?

The snow cat would be awesome. I could use a little back country skiing this weekend, maybe you've inspired me. ;)

The nice thing about football being over is now I can hit the ski resorts with my son without missing a Utah game. Novembers are tough for that. Alta, here I come.

The "week in week out sort of thing" is beyond anything anyone from Utah has ever seen. That's reality.

Enjoy the undefeated season produced by your truly outstanding team and be thankful that the cards landed the way they did. Very few fan bases get to experience what the Utah fans have had to cheer about this year.
