China has an export driven economy and the US is their biggest market. So the question is, where would they put those $s if they didn't buy Treasury Bonds? European Banks and the Euro? I think not, their financial system is in much worse shape than ours. Plus there would be a translation cost. The dollar is still the safest harbor these days.

If the gov hadn't got involved with manufactoring regulation we may still be making that crap ourselves. There also comes a time when, if we keep trashing the dollar, China will have to cut it's losses and stop backing our debt. China and Russia have both brought up the idea of a new global currency. We just can't keep going down this road and think that everybody is going to say okay.

Oh, maybe because they've already expressed concern about it. They've probably already figured out that Obama hasn't a clue and that the U.S. is on a collision course with disaster. Obama is showing no signs of realizing the gravity of his reckless spending and it hasn't gone unnoticed by the rest of the world with the exception of his Dem accomplices.

even if they have (and i think they are hinting at using a different reserve currency and not a new global currency) so what. maybe they'll suggest gold as the new global reserve

For one thing, Geithner will have an even harder time finding any economic minded people to join his staff. He is having a tough enough time filling the spots with qualified people as it is. No one wants on his sinking ship.
