There is no "Gadsden." I notice on certain boards the mantra has started up big time "Just wait until they get hammered by the NCAA about Gadsden." "Gadsden" was self-investigated by an independent law firm and investigators, at a considerable cost. The result was turned over to the NCAA, and, just as in the textbook matter, accepted. Further, every single vehicle driven by a student athlete is "vetted" as to title, where the money came from to purchase the car, etc. The NCAA is aware of this. We are one of the few schools doing this (or wanting to do it). There is no NCAA investigation ongoing concerning us in Gadsden. In fact, we've been notified that there is not and that the report was accepted and closed. If there were other open issues, they would have been mentioned the report yesterday. So - forget "Gadsden." The barn, OTOH, has a couple of worrisome issues there...

EDIT: As a respected sportswriter friend has posted elsewhere, the NCAA, as a custom, always combines cases, which makes sense. There was only one anomalous case where procedural issues dragged out on one of the charges. It's been over a year since the book PLOI. IOW, the chances of anything else going on concerning Bama are small to the vanishing point, or they would have been combined. (Translation for barn lurkers - no second, Gadsden letter, no matter what your little hearts desire.)

I can vouch the car thing that Earle is talking about. I used to run cross country and track at UA (I was a walk on), and I remember before every school year, we had to fill out these NCAA forms. A couple pages concerned everything and anything about my car. I had call my dad to get the information to some of the questions because I didn't know the information.

Thanks, Earle & CT.

Yet another reason on why I chose this board over the others. Thanks for not letting this board become what all others are.

GARBAGE!!

Thanks for clearing this up Earle. I'm so tired of hearing about the "Gadsden case" and other bs from the Barn and Finebaum. I hear this trash daily living here. I was in CiCi's last night and I overheard the manager talking to a worker about our textbook case and how it doesn't matter because we are "getting the death penalty anyway". I can't make this crap up.

Bottom line is that the Tide will continue to roll under CNS, and the future is extremely bright.

That's why he is working at Cici's.:p

So, Earle I have heard that there is a highly strange number of student athletes at Auburn who have defaulted on their car loans. Seems like someone may have gotten a little upset in their performance, and quit making their payments for them. Any truth?

I keep reading this, but, somehow, I missed the information. Can anyone speak to Auburn's Gadsden problems? If their Gadsden problems are legit, what is the impact?

Thanks for all the info! You guys do a tremendous job separating the filth and the truth.

re: Let's get something straight about "Gadsden..." (read edit to opening post)

Facts don't matter to the haters/barners, only wishful thinking. I'm amazed by how widespread the "death penalty to Alabama for Gadsden" is among the Auburn fanbase, on and off line. People I thought were fairly intelligent are hanging all their hopes on these rumors, while ignoring the possiblity of Auburn misdeeds being uncovered there!

I guess they really aren't putting alot of faith into Chizik's abilities and are depending on the NCAA to get them some W's?

re: Let's get something straight about "Gadsden..." (read edit to opening post)

Like I said in the Julio / Ingram fishing trip thread a couple of weeks back, eventually you just have to get used to the Barn rumors and tune them out. It is always something with those guys... some big scandal always about to break that will bring down this little evil empire we have running. Hell, I went through ten years of rumors in that thread just off the top of my head, none of them which ever had the least bit of credibility. This one will go the same way.

Again, you just have to get used to it and tune it out. It's all garbage, and nothing will come of it. And when the whole "Gadsden" bit never materializes, it will be something else. I don't know what and I don't know who it will supposedly involve, but rest assured it will be something else. And rest assured they will be on top of the situation and have it all figured out from day one. It always is that way with that bunch...

And I'll add this... if Freud had gotten a couple of those rubes as his first patients, he would have switched professions by the end of the week. There is just no explaining that much delusion, obsession, and paranoia.

I've yet to see/hear anything of substance on that whole deal yet...and your words confirm that Earle. Thanks for posting.

Wasn't there a post on one of the boards saying that this was all cooked up by a bunch of Barners?? Planned out very carefully about the story...talk about obsessive.

They may well have vehicle problems also. However, what I know about involved open offers by barn boosters for cash subsidies to a couple of prospects. These offers were taped and are in the hands of the NCAA presently. I, and others, have know of this for a long time. I've not posted it, but, after seeing the garbage on some of their sites, it's time for it to see the light of day...

Speaking of which, here is the relevant excerpt from my post in that thread:

BigEasyTider said:
Back when Shaun and Samuels returned for their senior year in 1999, we had supposedly paid them tons of money and given them cars. The following year there was supposedly a massive racial war between players because of the Zow / Watts QB race. After the 2001 Iron Bowl, the SEC was supposedly conducting a thorough investigation into Alabama paying off referees, which supposedly explained all of the no-calls on holding penalties that allowed us to butcher their run defense. After the NCAA sanctions were announced, supposedly the NCAA was going to re-open the case and give us the death penalty. After Shula was hired and recruiting rebounded slightly -- we edged out Auburn slightly in the recruiting rankings in 2004 -- we had apparently restarted the pay-for-play scheme. That same summer Brodie was apparently either killed or seriously injured in a hunting accident in South America. The following summer Chris Keys had left 'Bama and was "talking" to the NCAA, and Juwan Simpson was just one of many Alabama players selling guns and illegal firearms. Then Saban arrived and he supposedly hated it, and was already looking to leave. That first off-season he was supposedly going to take both the LSU and West Virginia jobs, depending on when the rumors broke. Last summer we were supposedly going to have to revoke a ton of scholarships to make the 2008 recruiting class fit, and when Johns was busted again a ton of team members were supposedly selling drugs. Then when the textbook deal broke, we were supposedly getting major sanctions for that. Once that was abandoned, we were buying Dodge Chargers for the Gadsden recruits. And hell, this is just all I can remember off the top of my head in one sitting, there's no telling what all I've forgotten over the years.

How ironic would that be if they got hammered for this while screaming about "Gadsden" on their message boards...

Lets just say that in the process of some numerous & extremely over-zealous attempts to set BAMA up to get investigated by the Nzaa WHICH FAILED, Awbarn has stepped in their own doo. The attention they wanted from the Nzaa in Gadsden is not what the barners intended.

I'd say more but its truly unbelievable. Just glad its turning on them.

There's your next big conspiracy, BET. They will say this whole thing was fabricated by Bama because we're so afraid of what Chizik is about to do on the Plains.

You're late. I've already seen it in some of their posts. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate the AU Rivals admins. They've recognized that the Gadsden stuff is garbage and they won't allow it on their open forum...
