Makes me hungry just reading this thread. I've had breakfast with BR at the Waysider and the lube job I got from the redeye gravy was good for 30,000 miles. Come to think of it, it's about time for another visit!

Not to self-promote, but since the door is open, I'll say something about WIntzells since its my restaurant haha ;)

Decorated in the famous signage that we are known for in Mobile stores..A Gulf Coast Tradition since 1938

Best happy hour in town if you get in to town on friday

$1 draft beer
$2 well drinks
$3 glasses of Yellow Tail Chardonnay and Merlot
$4.50 dozen raw oysters

Anyone up for Fresh Gulf seafood, we get our product in 3 times a week, so everything is as fresh as you can get it on the coast.

My recommendations would be the Grilled Mahi Mahi with Lemon Butter sauce or the Bacon - Wrapped shrimp ...

This has been a public service announcement from the OysterMan
Your fried pickles are excellent, Oyster Man!

Any suggestions on where to eat breakfast Saturday before the game?
The Waysider is great. Country ham, great biscuits etc. surrounding by Bama memorabilia. But it really has a small dining room so you'll have to get there early on a game day.

Does City Cafe serve breakfast until 4pm on Fridays? I have eaten at Tut's Place many times when I was a student. Their meatball sandwich was my favorite. I liked their pizza too, it kind or resembled the likeness to pizza up here. Who remembers Uncle Arnolds? It was a bagel stand accross the street from the bars on the strip back in the mid 90s. Nothing beats a plate from the Gut though with some Texas toast and extra dipping sauce.

Have any of yous guys in t-town checked out the handsome guy holding the rack of ribs with his sis holding the homemade barbeque sauce. They were featured in the Tusc. News sunday paper. The name of the place is Thomas Rib Shack. They have breakfast, lunch and bbq.

Breakfast: the best loaded omelettes
french toast (texas toast, not white)
pancakes
grits,
eggs made to order,
salmon patties,
sausage gravy,
biscuits,
bologna,
smoke link,
grilled cheese,
b.l.t........

Lunch: pork chops,
baked chicken,
fried chicken,
pigs feet,
neckbones
turkey necks,
beef stew,
chicken and dumplings

candied yams
black eyed peas
butter beans
pinto beans
mac and cheese

fried okra

MB... I think City Cafe stops serving breakfast at 10 am. Upside is that if you go in on an early lunch, you can get biscuits as your bread. BTW, not wild on the pancakes... but the biscuits/gravy are absolutely awesome.

I saw the list and everyones's recommendations but didn't see any for a mexican restaurant. I keep asking people from T-Town and players when they come down here for the Senior Bowl whats the best and nobody can come up with anything. Is it that bad?

For wings, the best I've had are from Bottomfeeders, they only smoke their BBQ (other places like Full Moon put sauce on it, and I've learned that smoked-only is the best).

To my knowledge, City Cafe is open until 3:30PM every week day. I am addicted to that place, probably eat there once every two weeks or so.

I know that really close to the stadium, there is BBQ stand off of 10th Ave (also known as Colonial Drive), between 11th and 12th streets. I can't remember the name, but I remember it being very good. They're even open after the game is over.

I forgot to include them. Realize we have a zillion in town... and everyone is kind of picky about their favorite. I personally like the La Fiesta in Brookwood and the Los Tarascos locations (82 in Northport/Skyland). Haven't tried the new La Fiesta (next to Olive Garden on 82)... but I imagine it's similar to the one in Brookwood (which is worth the drive IMO). Reason I like those two are due to their enchilas (my regular).

Lots of folks like either Taco Casa or one at the 5-points junction (cannot recall the name).

Having had homemade Mexican food, I'm very particular with my Mexican food. However, I will always vouch for Taco Gean off of 13th Ave, across the street from The Red Shed. Although I will never eat it, they do offer shredded lengua (cow's tongue) and to me, that definitely increases a cultural restaurant's authenticity. They recently changed their hours because the students are back in town, I know they're always open for lunch.

Sometimes, their menu isn't always complete because it all depends on what they can make for the day. Everything is made fresh each day, and I, again, highly recommend Taco Gean.

Funny story, I had a favorite little Mexican place over in N'Port when I was in school. It was great, but about every two months or so you would show up and it was closed due to an INS raid. Man when it was open they had some great food. It was in an old gas station or something turned into a restaurant best I remember.

The best description I've heard of Taco Gean is that, "It's Mexican food you're old Mexican grandmother would make". I've never eaten there, but I have several friends who swear by it (I go by there numerous times on my stops to Egans). They also have at times coca-colas from Mexico - the type with the real cane sugar and not corn syrup. Those are always popular.

Personally, though, I'm partial to Jalapeno's - they have a location by County High and one in the North River area.
