The game from a Hog's perspective

While the Hawg secondary certainly stinks, I have to give credit where due and say that their front consistently whipped our OL all day--even in the 4th quarter when they could easily have chucked it in. Our D is awesome but the OL needs to gain some cohesion and a little swagger. Congrats to the Arky DL/LB corp for stopping our run for the most part and more so for never quitting.

One thing to remember before we rip Mallett too much - McElroy didn't have to play against our defense. I think that our defense is going to make a lot of QBs look bad this season...

Come'on! He had exactly "Zero" zip on the ball for someone his size and he isn't the most elusive QB out there right now. Yeah, we forced him into mistakes but that is part of the game. When GM was pressured he had the presence to dump the ball off. One thing is right from this thread and my question was answered. He transferred from Michigan because he can't run the "Option" part of the "Spread Option".

GM pressured? When did that happen?

They whipped our OL because they put 8 in the box and concentrated on the run. What happened when we made the adjustment, short dump offs for big gains.

I know. I'm beginning to lose faith in our fans' ability to count. You can't block eight. We should have started with the short stuff even earlier...

What a concept! There are 8 men guarding the line of scrimmage and everyone else is covering deep! Look at all of the real estate in between! ;)

Gang,
Point was poorly made--just trying to give a foe their due. Agree they stacked the box but was pointing out more that they didn't quit when they had a chance even when down 28 in the 4th.

A good football team can take what they give you, which means they are multi dimensional in their skills. Imagine not having the ability to pass short dumps to set up a deep ball. Plus the pass blocking was good. Watch the wildcat reverse pitch, the O line had their D line contained and enabled the play to progress, it takes time to get that play off and Greg didn't have a defender within 15 feet when he passed.

Take what they give you and go to town, look at the score for gosh sakes.

We started with short stuff from the beginning; but our guys couldn't hold onto perfectly thrown balls. Those three or four drops in the first quarter were costly in that it cut short some of those early possessions and failed to cause the Hogs to back off the line.
