If you guys win out, and VT wins out, would you want to play us again?

With numbers like Sagarin's going into the equation, a rematch could happen.

VT is currently ranked ahead of Bama, on the virtue of having played three and beaten two of the top 30.
Sagarin's ELO_CHESS (the red one) is the one used in the BCS. His top 10 for ELO_CHESS:

1. Iowa
2. Boise State
3. Alabama
4. LSU
5. Virginia Tech
6. Oregon
7. Florida
8. TCU
9. USC
10. Miami.

Not that any of this matters after week 4.

Believe it or not, there is precedent for such a thing. This has happened before. In 1978.

Nebraska barely beat no. 1 OU in Lincoln, robbing them of a NC(of which, ironically, we were the main beneficiary) because of a fumbling heisman winner named Billy Sims and yet they were forced to play OU again in the Orange Bowl at the end of the season. Tom Osborne was furious. And he had good reason to be, IMO. Subsequently, OU beat Nebraska in the rematch 31-24, a game that was 31-10 at the half and not as close as its final score.

The moral to the story--Rematches always favor the initial loser and thus I would want no part of one with VT:smile:--at least this season.

I think this would be a fun rematch because it was such a good game the first time around, but it would also be fun to play Texas or Oklahoma or really whoever else was in the Title game.

Or would you want to play another opponent, not because you don't think you would win, but because you would like to just play another team?

I was thinking the season through, and I would love for VT to win out, DUH, but I was looking at everyone else, and I would hope you guys would win out too.

So I'm up for wanting to play you guys again, and just wanted to see what some of you Tide fans would say.

As much as I enjoyed the VT game, I would much rather play Texas in Pasadena, if Alabama is fortunate to make it unscathed.

Personally, I think a 1-loss Florida would get the nod over any other undefeated team or 1-loss team at the end of the year.

If their 1 loss comes in the SEC Championship game their title game chances go out the window, just like ours. Unless there are no undefeated teams (legitimate) or legitimate 1 loss teams left, which isn't likely to be the case.

As for facing Tech again, if it's for all the marbles I don't care who it is. :D

In all honesty I'd like to play Texas, but I'd take whoever as long as it's in the big game.
It still amazes me that Alabama has never beaten Texas.
I'd rather play Texas and get over that hump, but if VT makes it to the BCSCG, and Alabama gets to play them for the Championship, so be it.

Are you sure about this? (That you must win your conference to make the bcs championship game) I don't think that's correct, but can't find anything definitive anywhere - do you have a link by chance?
I have heard this said on every major network, but I just searched and can't find it reflected in the BCS selection rules anywhere... :conf3:

Maybe I'm not so good like that--I think I stand corrected:

An easy remedy could've been found, as early as 2001, after Nebraska somehow secured safe passage to the BCS title game without even winning its division, let along the conference. The old bowl alignment was always arranged to match conference champions in the most prestigious bowls, and therefore a pre-requisite of winning one's conference would not be unreasonable for teams vying to play in the BCS title game.

But the BCS refused to insert this one amendment -- even to this day. After the catastrophe of 2003, when the No. 1 team in both polls was denied a place in its title game that resulted in a split championship, the BCS was forced back to the drawing board, and smashed it up. A brand new formula was concocted to appease an increasingly angry and skeptical public.

Was watching College Football Live yesterday and when everyone was throwing up thier rankings, I thought, hey it could happen, UA and VT in Pasadena if the Big 12 beat each other up and we win the SECCG. And yes, I wouldn't mind seeing us go at it again, but no more freebies on kickoffs.

Playing VT again is a lose/lose for Bama. If we win again so what if we lose it takes away from our previous win. I dont like rematches, not afraid of VT but they had their chance and its not best two out of three, it's one and done see you next time.

Never really likes rematches. The team that won the 1st game is in a no win situation pretty much. Plus, I rather see Bama get a chance to beat Texas for the 1st time.

Nothing against VT, and I like VT, but we beat them already....
Bama shouldn't have to prove something again, we already proved once...........

That's pretty much the way I see it, particularly in this case. It was at a neutral site and if there were any advantages, they would have been VTech's, more experienced Oline and QB. Nope, no rematch, they had their chance.

We already beat VT. They had their crack at us, and if we end up in the NC game, someone else deserves a crack at us. I'd love to play an undefeated Texas team personally. What if we get to Pasadena and Boise State shows up?
