Re: Play Calling

the lack of wildcat in the second half was idiotic to say the least. We had them sold out on that run...begging for big play in the passing game. Heck, we were more effective running out of that formation than standard under center or shotgun.

Re: Play Calling

Bottomline, if Saban disagreed with the playcalling does anyone think it would not be fixed IMMEDIATELY?

Re: Play Calling

I was very puzzled by the play calling myself. I would much rather run the ball more than we do, but I figure the coaches saw something they thought we should exploit, and we just failed to execute. I am really not sure what to say at this point.

Good point. Did we play action pass at all to take advantage of this???

Re: what is wrong with our offense

Oh hell no. Let's not start this crap. Poor execution, by more than just the QB, and questionable play calling is the issue.
Ditto that GeorgiaTider!!! Missed much of the game due to work but when I was able to watch I had more concern over the play calling.

The week off comes at a great time for us; I'm sure we'll all agree that they, coaches and players, will get things worked out during the break. RTR!!!:BigA::BigA:

Re: what is wrong with our offense (merged threads)

I was disappointed that we didn't try not one run attempt when we were so close to getting a first down. I hope we get the play calling worked out for future games.

I was also surprised and disappointed at how well Tennessee's offense moved the ball on us. Our defense stepped up to stop some scoring a few times, or it could have been worse.

RTR!!!

That implies our coach(es) can be idiots. Those are strong words after a great victory don't you think? Unless you don't see this as a great victory, in which case I would call idiotic.

I may be partially deaf, but I do believe the stadium boo'd the heck out of the play calling on that idiotic goal line scenario. I hate being the boo-bird, but we have the athletes to become National Champs - but we DON'T have the Red Zone play calling to be National Champs.

Re: what is wrong with our offense (merged threads)

Honestly, I believe our offense played better than in the previous 2 games.

The times we got into the red zone, we stopped running the ball, and tried to get cute with the passes. The fade pass to JJ was an OBVIOUS pass interference. How can you justify a DB basically ramming his shoulder into a WR while the receiver is still running his route while about to go after a catchable-ball?

There was a 3rd & 1 where we didn't get the 1st down. We should've put Cody in to block for Ingram on that play, but we didn't. We played conservative. Ask Jeff Fisher what happens when you play conservative football.

We also had a lot of drops. WAY too many drops.

I'm sorry, but I blame this one on a mixture of playcalling, and guys just not making plays. McElwain, Saban and McElroy need to straighten this mess out.

Re: what is wrong with our offense (merged threads)

3 games in a row. it is a little troublesome
It looks to me like opposing defenses have decided that the best way to stop us is to crowd the line and cover the short routes. We sure didn't run the ball great out of normal formations, and short routes that were open earlier in the year are now all covered up. I thought the pass blocking was okay so we should have been able to hit some more routes down the field.

Hopefully we can fix some of this stuff during the off week.

Re: what is wrong with our offense

I'd chalk it up to play calling. It's been awful. Mark had 3 carries before that final drive. You can't get in a rhythm running it 3 times in the half.

When it was 2nd and 2 from the 4 yard line, why on earth would you throw it twice? You run it down their throats. You have 7 plays to get the TD. It almost cost us. I can't believe how bad it's been. Our players have looked good out there. They've made most of the plays that have been called. When that happens but our production goes down, it's obviously on the guys calling the plays.

Well said. You've got second and 2 on the 4 yard line, and you just had an 8 yard run to get you there. Now granted, I do think that was interference on Julio, mainly because the DB stepped in and initiated the contact. But, that play should have never been called. The ball should have been in Ingrams hands. Krymsonman

Re: what is wrong with our offense (merged threads)

The biggest problem I see is we're way to predictable on offense..I dang near called every play we ran before they happened..If I can do that..I'm sure Monte Kiffin was to..We need to become less predictable on offense..JMO

If you look at that serious in a vacumn maybe yes. But did you read the paper this week on GMAC's red zone play as of late? Did you hear the announcer's make a point of mentioning that, or too embarrassed to mention it?

Maybe just maybe, the coaches were trying to get that monkey off his back, and saw this as a good opportunity. It didn't work, but the Julio play was questionable and we would still not be talking about GMAC'S red zone TD problem.

I am happy that our coaches see a bigger picture and plan for future events instead of instant gratification and planning only for the moment.

Even if planning for future events loses games in the present? Would you be so happy had Cody not blocked that FG?

The fumble about lost the game, and the pass to Julio should have worked if not for questionable errors in the zone.
I believe the coaches were trying to get a red zone touchdown pass.

So we still have that monkey on our back and won the game, are you happy? I would have liked to have both, like the coaching staff and GMAC.

Re: what is wrong with our offense (merged threads)

What's wrong? I don't know. But from what I see it will be very difficult to beat LSU or FL unless we fix the problem. Tonite we finally had the one drive for a td followed by the turnover that could have cost us this game. We were ripe for this the last two games but our D kept us alive. What I have observed is that in my opinion GMac is a good QB and should be better next year but I would have to disagree w/anyone who says he's better than JPW. Maybe next year, but not at this moment. We have some issues that have now been evident 3 weeks in a row. Just sayin....
