I'd heard as many as 25 but that was on a UT board a few weeks ago, so UT fans probably threw several extra in for good measure...Someone else may have a better grasp of the numbers than I do, but I think this brings the total number of Florida players arrested in the Meyer era to at least enough for a 22-man starting squad.
Agree.I could care less about having to hear excuses. I'm sure there have been plenty of excuses over the last 100 years or so of college football, but hardly anyone remembers them. We remember Championships by the fact that we got'em, not how we got'em.
If we have a better chance of winning because Dunlap's not playing, then I'm easily jumping on that bandwagon. Excuses don't count for anything, only results.
This almost sounds like you're preparing an excuse just in case. FYI - "Roll with the punches" generally means NOT making excuses beforehand in case you fail. EVERY team in the NCAA has to deal with adversity, injuries, and discipline problems.Of course not, lol. HUGE break for you guys....2nd year in a row you caught a huge break before the SECCG. You just gotta roll with the punches though.
You beat me to it.Agree.
In my opinion, having players on your team who can remain accountable, law-abiding citizens, and who actually care about the team (especially the week of one of their biggest games ever) is just as important to the win or loss as a team that had 15 penalties in a game, five interceptions, gave up three kicks for touchdowns, poor clock management at the end of the game, etc.. In short, the team that loses will ALWAYS have a coulda, woulda, shoulda of some sort. Having one of your best defensive players sit out because he drank himself silly and passed out in an intersection is just another one of those.
This makes 25, at least: Orlando Sentinel - From one to 24: Florida Gators database on legal troubles byI'd heard as many as 25 but that was on a UT board a few weeks ago, so UT fans probably threw several extra in for good measure...![]()
and commuted sentencesUrban Meyer invented DUI's.
They will if he wins, but God help him if he plays Dunlap and still loses. If myers lets him play, it will kill what integrity he has.. The media WILL NOT let this go.
Oh yes they will. Especially if Florida escapes Alabama and beats Texas for the title. You won't hear a peep out of them. If he does suspend him, and Alabama escapes with the win, then the media will be running their yaps about how Meyer sacrificed a shot at the title to send a message to recruits. If myers lets him play, it will kill what integrity he has.. Report: Dunlap's father says his son likely won't play against Tide | The Bama Beat - al.com"I got the sense that he won't be able to play," Dunlap Sr. told the Sentinel. "I asked him if there's anything he can do -- it wouldn't be right if I didn't ask -- and he said he doesn't know what he can do. We're supposed to meet tonight."
Orlando Sentinel - Father: Dunlap likely not playing against Alabama byDunlap Sr. said as of 2:15 p.m. that his son was still in jail despite being granted a release from an Alachua County judge about five hours ago. Paperwork is stalling the process.
Dunlap went out with some teammates and was two blocks away from his house when he fell asleep at the light on the 200 block of Southwest 34th Street, Dunlap Sr. said.
Right Florida only has to look back to their loss to Nebraska in 1996 for inspiration. Tom Osbourne started Lawrence Phillips after he assaulted his ex-girlfriend; Nebraska won and 13 years later virtually no one remembers that aspect of it. The news reports at the time indicated that Phillips beat the woman pretty savagely, but Osbourne said it would do more harm to Phillips to kick him off the team than it would do by allowing him to play. He suspended him for what one series against Iowa State, immediately following the incident?Oh yes they will. Especially if Florida escapes Alabama and beats Texas for the title. you sure you'r not talking about a different Urban Meyer???... but if it is true Meyer has a pretty good record of suspending players for things this serious.
I don't think the '96 media is in anyway the same as the '09 media. If this were something other than a DUI they may let it die, but in todays world a DUI is a very serious matter. The sports media may drop it, but I'd bet there are orgs out there like MADD and SADD that are watching the developments.Right Florida only has to look back to their loss to Nebraska in 1996 for inspiration. Falling asleep; passing out...no big difference, right?Dunlap went out with some teammates and was two blocks away from his house when he fell asleep at the light on the 200 block of Southwest 34th Street, Dunlap Sr. said.
