Does anyone know anything about his backup? Any significant drop in talent?
Justin Trattou is his backup (a 5* recruit, iirc) and he's killer. There will be some drop-off, but not much, imo.

Now depth might become an issue as the game goes on - rotation is key to keeping the DL fresh...

Trattou is a bit of a dropoff, but not by much. There is still plenty of speed and talent on that defense. Hate that he made such a dumb decision and potentially hurt his team.

But... This reminds me of an old ZZ Top song. :cool2:

When you’re driving down the highway at night
And you’re feelin’ that wild turkey’s bite
Don’t give johnny walker a ride
Cause jack black is right by your side
You might get taken to the jailhouse and find
You’ve been arrested for driving while blind!

Now just the other night with nothin’ to do
We broke a case of proof 102
And started itchin’ for that wonderful feel
Of rollin’ in an automobile
You could say we was out of our mind
And let me tell you we were flyin’ while blind

Then they had us up against the wall
Hey it’s only blood grain alcohol
And there ain’t no cause for alarm
We ain’t out to do nobody no harm
How could anyone be so unkind
To arrest a man for drivin’ while blind...

Yep. In Jess' write-up, he wrote that Bama needs to account for Dunlap on every play. If the brain trust thinks they don't have to do the same thing with Trattou, Gmac is in for a long, painful night.

Yep, Trattou is a good player. You're going to feel a player like Dunlap's absence but defensive depth is one of Florida's team strengths. Trattou is not use to being a every-down player this season, so perhaps there would be a stamina problem for him...but he'll be ready to play and likely make a few plays Saturday.

This doesn't change a whole lot in terms of what BAMA needs to do, imo. Dunlap was the starter for a reason and a future NFLer, but UF is deep and talented, so its still going to be a fight. It might be somewhat of a distraction, but by it happening early in the week, it still gives UF some time to prepare the back-ups.

I hope they had some other players at the same party Dunlap was at.

Maybe he had drank some water at Tebows apartment. He didnt realize Tebow had turned the water into wine.

Well Carlos didn't start for us last year so the DE's will be the same ones that started last year. Justin Trattou will replace Dunlap and he is a pretty good player.
I think the ditraction itself may be just as harmful to the team. Trattou will be ready to play. This hurts Dunlap more than anyone, stupid mistake takes him out of the biggest game of his career. Live and learn Carlos.

I read on a Florida blog, this was all Tebow's fault. He was out with him just trying to hydrate himself when all of a sudden the water turned into wine whe it got into his system.
Saw this in the comments of an article and just had to laugh.

Losing Dunlap hurts their defense, there's no doubt about it. They certainly have capable backups, but they're not on Dunlap's level IMHO. You don't simply replace a guy of his talents in less than a week. Insanely bone headed move on his part, although he likely doesn't care, he's more than likely off to the NFL after this season anyway.

We have been without our second best defensive player for most of the year, so this will even it out a bit. If Urban is even going to suspend him? Not sure didn't feel like reading 19 pages. If someone could just give me a yes or a no that would be great.

Exactly my thoughts. It evens up the loss of DH...

I agree with Meyer's decision to suspend him. Kudo's to the coach for doing that.

I strongly disagree with his Tuesday afternoon announcement that he was suspending Dunlap. If I were Meyer, I would not show that card until Saturday morning, when I released my starting roster to the media.

This is a tactical mistake--it allows Saban, McElwain and the rest of the Bama brain trust to alter their schemes.

I'm suspicious by nature. Re Bama altering schemes based on Dunlap not playing... What if Meyer makes it known on Saturday that he had a change of heart and the suspension will not be for the full game... just the coin toss. Dunlap plays. Such a move would energize the Gators and wreck havoc with Bama's plans. Hopefully CNS and CJM will be prepared for this sort of trickery...

OTOH, last year Florida beat us without Harvin. Meyer might figure they can do it again, this time without Dunlap.

Dont get me wrong Carlos is a great player but our D is pretty deep and in games like this players step up. I dont see Dunlaps absence making one difference. Trattou is a beast as are the others. Harvin was an Athelete and more of an impact. Gators will miss him but will play at the same level.
