I wonder how much Craig James took while he was at SMU? I'm still tilted towards believing Leach more than anyone in the James family.

I think it was extremely unprofessional of espn to put Craig James on air to talk about the situation.
Ditto and ditto. I'm not shocked but am disappointed ESPN would air the interview.

It is extremely likely that neither TT, nor Leach, nor the James family (particularly the son), and now ESPN will be anything but adversely affected by the incredibly inane handling of this affair. :mad2:

Hey maybe it happened the way he said. I just think and its only an opinion. He's using his dads influence to get back at Leach. Who knows with this but I bet we find out. Either way Leach is probably gone.
Oh I completely agree. I was just using your name for back-up in the whole "cruel" treatment of a player with a concussion. With the name of a Hospital in your username, I'm assuming you know a little about what's right and wrong in the treatment of a concussion.

I thought it was a nice touch that the interview background was a dark cloth so that we would be sure not to connect CJ with ESPN. It sure kept me from connecting the dots or thinking he was his public personna to have an influence on any of this. ;)

I know nothing about cruel treatment. I am person that throws people into a tight tube with 140 decibels of racket blaring into their ears.:biggrin2:

This whole Texas Tech administration vs. Mike Leach has been a train wreck waiting to happen for a while now. I don't understand why Mike Leach is still the head coach at Texas Tech. I know other schools have shyed away from hiring him for whatever reason. I'm just glad there wasn't an ESPN, internet message boards, Twitter, Facebook, cell phones, texting, etc... when Coach Bryant took those A&M boys to the Junction and made men out of them. He would have been in a heap of trouble.

But, I'm a dad. I'm not a half-baked college football commentator, I don't have a man crush on Colt McCoy, I'm not someone in the media using my position to influence others, I'm not a cash taking football player at SMU responsible for the death penalty, I've got no axe to grind, I'm a dad.

Come on, dude. Comparing this incident with Coach Bryant's is like apples and oranges. Ask FSU (or the Minnesota Vikings) about pushing players in extreme heat with no water breaks.......they die. Too many players were dying from that kind of treatment over the years, so the rules were changed....for the good.

could you spread the word that offering crappy headphones and barely audible music doesn't actually make the 140 decibels any more tolerable.

Something doesn't seem right about this whole situation. Not even a sniff of something similar in the past from Leach. I'm going to have to see more facts before making a judgment, but based on gut alone, the Craig James interview left me wanting.
I agree. Something is missing from this situation. I am not sure what it is, but there seems to be something else driving the train.

Hospitals buy the cheapest possible ear plugs. We have the next ones up from the cheapest!! As for the music its worthless. If you turn it up so the patient can hear it when the sound stops the music blows out the patients ear drums. I just try to use ear phones(helps more than plugs) or just wedge sponges next to the plugs. Music boxes suck though.

I listened to his interview, and heard him try to put it in as bad a light as possible, and I wasn't impressed. He reached his quota of getting the word "concussion" out 20 times; but never mentioned the word "MILD" in front of it. He neglected to say there was a 'licensed' trainer with the little girl at all times, because that wouldn't help further his agenda. It sounded like hurt feelings to me, and daddy taking up for a worthless child.

Keller speaking of concussions, when you get a chance please walk over to the ambulance office and smack Carson for me. Just tell him its from someone in Dallas.

Wow, I'm amazed at the number of people on here taking CML's side in this....based on what his lawyer is saying. I tend to believe the player in a situation like this. Why would Adam James make this up? Why would the witnesses make this up? If this is true, CML should be fired. You do not do these types of things to players, especially injured ones. JMO.
Which witnesses are you referring to?? The only non-biased witnesses in this whole matter (ie, not a member of the James family, and not a current member of the TT staff) have indicated that Adam James was a lazy brat. To my knowledge, no other corraborating witnesses have come forward on James' side.

Looking strictly at the facts that are agreed upon, and widely reported, this is all we know:

1. Adam James played baseball and not football his freshman year, had friction with the baseball staff, and quit mid-season (per Graham Harrel email);

2. The former WR coach at TT has stated that James had attitude and effort problems at practice (per email released to the media);

3. The former WR coach at TT did not want to keep James on the team, but Leach over-ruled him (per email);

4. James was not happy with the amount of PT he was receiving at TT (widely reported in the media);

5. James suffered a slight concussion at practice;

6. Thereafter, Leach forced James to sit/stand inside an equipment shed near the practice field once. After viewing the shed thru Leach's attorney's interview, it has running water, a fan, and an ice machine;

7. Leach forced James to sit/stand in the opposing team's media room for 1-3 hours;

8. Prior to any of these incidents, Leach and TT have had a strained relationship due to Leach's interest in other jobs, and his aggressive contract negotiations;

9. Leach is due an $800k bonus if he coaches the Alamo Bowl, and remains the TT head coach thru the rest of the season;

10. Perhaps most important, there are absolutely no allegations that Leach forced James to participate in any type of contact/physical exertion during practice which could possibly aggravate the injury, or further expose James to head trauma.

I got on some TT message boards, looked at a Dallas News station's tour of the "shed" and "closet," etc. Based upon the facts cited above, and drawing some reasonable inferences, my opinion is:

1. James is a spoiled kid, with an entitlement attitude, and a weak work ethic;

2. James obviously did suffer some type of concussion injury;

3. James' doctor released him to practice, but suggested that he not expose himself to bright light (common advice for concussions);

4. James showed up at practice in street clothes with shades on, and told the staff he couldn't go out that day;

5. Leach disciplined James in a way that both fit the unique situation, yet did not endanger him, and actually fit with his treating doctor's advice;

6. Certain members of the TT administration still have an axe to grind with Leach, and this became a convenient, and media friendly way to (1) throw egg on Leach's face; (2) put a very public reprimand in his HR file to damage his marketability to other schools; (3) probably run him out of Lubbock; and (4) possibly save TT $800k in the process, while (5) taking the same $800k out of Leach's pocket.

And then on top of it, telling the poor sucker (me) that if I don't relax and control my breathing, the mri won't come out right. I'm sorry - you try to relax and breathe shallow with a jackhammer pounding beside your head.

Anyway, back on-topic: agree with those that think ESPN has been VERY unprofessional in putting daddy on. Leach is a bit of a freak, no doubt. But I think that father, son, network and administration are all leaning on each other to railroad him. I may be wrong, but that's the feeling I'm getting from what I've seen.

It is pretty clear that James is a brat. It is also pretty clear that Leach is a child. Maybe they deserve one another. As punishment, I think they should be forced to bunk together for one year...

=Agreed.

It is also pretty clear that Leach is a child.
Where has Leach acted like a child??? He demanded to be paid his full value by the TT administration. He refused to let a spoiled kid undermine his authority by hiding behind an injury. He disciplined the kid, in an odd, but safe manner. Then he defended his actions in Court and in the press. There are no allegations that he attempted to cover-up anything that transpired. He freely admits he sent the kid to the shed. According to speculation, he refused to allow everyone (ie, the James' and TT admin) to save face by apologizing for his actions. Instead, he stuck to his principles, and defended what he thought was right, at the cost of his job.

If refusing to promote your job security at the cost of your personal integrity, or placing the principle of truth and honesty above his own staff's well-being is "acting like a child" then I strive to be "childish" everyday. I wish a few more of our politicians and public figures would act so childish.
