League sources tell ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that the Seahawks are targeting longtime USC coach Pete Carroll as Mora's replacement. Carroll did not return messages, but a league source said Carroll is interested in the job and is trying to persuade Trojans offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates to join him in Seattle, as opposed to Bates pursuing the same position with the Chicago Bears.
Said another source close to Carroll: "You're about to see a big headline that shakes up the major college football word," in reference to the Seahawks' development. The Seahawks did not confirm Carroll as a leading candidate but also did not deny it.

Thats exactly what I'm feeling on this one. Get gone while the getting is good. And before 'they' get him where he is now. Join the list of coaches that jump ship when the NCAA starts snooping around their program. Arrive like a hero in a new place while your old employers get their teeth knocked in with a ball-peen hammer by the NCAA.

I think Mike Hamilton would love to have a clean shot at a do-over. But, I wouldn't think USC would be stupid enough to put Mr. Secondary Violation in charge of a program thats already in trouble. After all, they did get to witness up close the train wreck that was the Oakland Raiders under Lane Kiffin. :biggrin2:

With the NzAA hovering over U$C, I could see this happening...its a west coast job so its a good fit for Carroll in that regard as well.

I think you're exactly right. I think Carrol sees penalties coming and would rather be in Seattle.

I thought it was odd that Carroll was a guest commentator all night on ESPN last night. Have they ever done that with a current college head coach before? It almost seemed to me like he was auditioning for a job (with ESPN) in case the NCAA brought the hammer down on him and USC...

Mike Riley, former Bama DB and head coach of Oregon State is one of the people that has been contacted. And yes I would not be surprised to see USC put on some type of probation.
