Was Colt's injury carried a bit too far?

...But what about his future? Does anyone know if he got the feeling in his arm back? And does having this sort of injury once pre-dispose one to getting it again once healed? Colt seemed like a good kid and I would hate it if he ended his football career last Thursday night.
No idea about his current status, but one report said that this happened to him once before, a few years ago.

I didn't think the hit Don'ta Hightower took on the knee in the Arkansas game looked that bad on TV. I kind of knew that wasn't a valid method of assessing an injury, though.

Marcel had it moving pretty good when he put his hat on that boys shoulder. I wonder whether he can scratch his own ear with that arm right now.

In yesterdays Newark Star Ledger, Tom Luicci had his 34 things we learned from the 34 bowl games. "McCoy's injury gave us an incomplete end to the season and all but handed Alabama a hollow national title game victory". Then he goes on to say, "Florida was the second-best team in the country, Texas-with a healthy Colt McCoy-is the only team that can debate the point".

Yes the injury has been overblown and carried way too far. The Alabama defense has been punishing qb's all year long. Ask Jordan Jefferson, Ryan Mallet and Tim Tebow how "soft" the Alabama defense is.

It's not like this was a "slip in the shower the day before the game" freakish type injury. This injury was inflicted and forced by a hard hitting Alabama defense. I don't give two pickled turds what Colt McCoy "would have done" if he was in there. The reality of it is he wasn't in there because he got knocked out of the game by a hard hitting Alabama defense.

Advice to Texas fans and their football team:

1. Stop building an offense around one aspect of the game and around one player.

2. Don't run your qb into the teeth of a defense that is very physical.

3. Get a running game.

4. Get a defense that can stop the run.

Bamabuzzard, THANK YOU! It's refreshing to see that not everyone is wanting to change McCoy's diaper for him.

But you know that Texas will always use that as their excuse for not beating the Tide.

Another note to those that "have been reading the reports". Don't believe everything you read. (Most) of the media no longer reports on the facts. They report their opinion or what the boss tells them to write to cover the situation at hand. That doctor will tell the press whatever the McCoy family want him to say.

On edit: I still didn't get any opinions as to why he couldn't answer questions after the game without laughing. That just seemed very suspicious to me. Take Tebow after the loss. He couldn't talk well for crying, being so upset for loosing the game and he was even able to contribute fully to the game. Colt just laughed it off as if it wasn't that big of a deal. Am I imagining that?
The way I saw it, Colt was speechless. I expected him to say something like "There aren't words to describe it" but all he had was a little laugh that seemed more to relieve the discomfort of speechlessness than actual amusement.

McCoy is in Alabama now getting his shoulder checked out by Dr. Andrews, so we can put the whole, "He was trying to save himself" thing to bed, I think...

As far as being speechless.....

Again, just my opinion, he would have been more effective had he simply pleaded the fifth and gone back the field house. :pDT_popc1:
There was no humor in his little laugh. A good bit of embarrassment, plus not being able to express his emotions. This is not the first time for this injury. He suffered the identical injury against K-St as a freshman. One injury to the brachial nerves does seem to predispose to repetitions...

It seemed to me that McCoy was trying to compose himself before he started speaking in the post game interview. I really believe he was hurt too bad to return to the game. He said he had waited his entire life to play on a stage like that, and I believe that.

I agree, Colt just really didn't know what to say. I hate the kind of asinine questions the female reporter (forgot her name) was asking him at the end of the game anyway. Frankly, I think Colt handled it better than I would have, I probably wouldn't have talked to the media or lost it and told her how I really felt about not getting to finish the NC game and her stupid questions, which would have been censored on TV.

What bugged me were the original reports praising Brown for "doing the right thing and holding McCoy out of the game." Based on the reports Brown wasn't doing the "right thing" he was doing the ONLY thing he could in the situation. McCoy couldn't complete a 7 yard pass to his dad in the locker room. No way he could have come back into the game and done anything effective. He might have been a decoy for a series or two, but that's it.

Finally, McCoy's comment "that he knew what we were going to do before we did it and was fixin' to complete every pass" comment irked me a bit. I doubt he meant it as bad as it sounded and QBs are supposed to be confident, but I couldn't help thinking "Gee if you knew what we were going to do before we did it, maybe you should have checked out of that option play."

Sorry, I don't see it as a whiney Colt McCoy, I see it as a fluke injury. Got to remember, Suh of Nebraska, rated the best defensive presence in a decade, sacked him a half dozen times, and no game exiting injury occurred.

You take away much from a great Athlete when you say what you have, this kid is the all time winning QB in College Football History, you have to give him as much credit as he did to Bama, in other words, we need to show as much class!

I certainly hope that is the case. I would like to think that anyone should want to play in a game like that, especially when you could possibly be the "star of the show" that beat The Tide. It is very possible that the injury was severe enough to keep him out. I also think about the millions to be recieved after signing that NFL contract. That thought can suppress the sadness caused from not playing in this game. Oops, I did it again.

Anyway, all of the opinions posted are really good and appreciated. I like seeing different directions relating to a thought.

Thanks to all for participating and being a good sport.
