Looking at the webcam of the construction at BDS, I noticed in the background, that it appears the seats are being removed from the West upper deck. Does anyone know what the purpose is? Are they being replaced as part of the current upgrade or are they removing them permanently.

They are removing the upper deck....too hard to sell tickets. We'll get down to a good 65K capacity and then be able to fill it every week.

Just kidding, obviously. I think they are doing some concrete work underneath the seats, and it's easier to just pull them out temporarily.

I know that one of the sideline upper decks is lower than the other side because it does not have as many rows as the higher side. They may be doing something about that.

Personally, I think that eventually, we need to connect the corners of the upper deck. Then put connect the overhang-thingy (that's on top of the sideline upper decks) over the endzone upper decks. That would give BDS a soccer-stadium feel but also help keep the sound in.

Then, if they decide to drop the field (which I've heard is a possibility), and remove the sideline sidewalks - thus, bringing the crowd closer and "on top" of the teams, the noise potential can be incredible.

They are turning parts of the West Upper Deck into standing room only sections. After years of receiving emails and phone calls from people complaining about other fans standing and obstructing their views, Tide Pride held several focus groups and sent out random questionnaires to about 200 of its members to address this issue. The end result was an overwhelming movement to provide sections of the stadium as "standing sections."

If you are a Tide Pride member, you will be receiving a letter asking if you would be interested in switching your seats to one of the standing sections in the West Upper Deck. If you are a Tide Pride member in one of the sections being changed to "standing sections," you will be contacted with some options for switching your seat allocation. Tide Pride hopes that this change will curtail the constant complaints and occassional fights regarding whether true fans stand or sit during the game. Additionally, it is believed that security and law enforcement will crack down on standers in the "non-standing sections."

Once again, Tide Pride has done an outstanding job of meeting the needs of its members.

The upper decks won't meet at the same height, so they'll probably never be joined. Also, dropping the field has been studied at length, but there's the problem of the underground stream running under the field. To divert it would mean tearing down a number of buildings around the field. Then, there is the line of sight problem. It's already poor for a lot of the lower seats. Dropping the field would exacerbate the problem...

Hey now. There will be no tomfoolery around here  It's the off season. At least we are not talking about crimson pants or white helmets
So, what's the better Crimson Tide tradition: Basketcase at the 4th quarter or Rammer Jammer before the game?
