As Bama fans, we need to start rooting for Duke and North Carolina in basketball

This is the second time in NCAA history that Duke and North Carolina won basketball championships back-to-back. It is Alabama that won the football title between their basketball titles. The last time this happened was when Duke won in 1992 and North Carolina won in 1993. And guess who won the football national title in between back then? :biggrin2:

Lol. I am a Duke fan (mainly b/c of Coach K), and while Bama is my first love, I really appreciate what he has done there. In all honesty, I expected this thread to be about how they're a national power every year (like we were in the 60s,70s, 90s, and hopefully we continue dominating now), they are led by one of the best coaches in the game (Bear and now CNS for us), and they run a good program (teaching kids good lessons; good graduation rates, etc), and b/c the national media seems to root against Duke and Bama. The commentators last night were so in love with Butler, it made me think of how they act toward Tebow or Notre Dame.

But the logic you used was sound as well.

I do feel that way too. There was part of me that wanted Butler to win. There was another part that knew how starved the Duke fans must be for a championship after not winning one for almost 10 years. Bama had that starvation a year ago. We know how it feels. Auburn fans don't get that. They are content with a coach who is 7-5 and beats Bama every now and then.

Yep...and I would've been rooting for Butler too had they not been playing Duke b/c that would've been the modern-day Hoosiers (my favorite b-ball movie). I forgot to mention how much the fans are either anti-Bama/Duke or pro-Bama/Duke. We are just one of those teams that people love or people hate (how many SEC teams circle our game on their calendars or how many SEC fan message boards just spew hatred/ contempt for Bama).

Yeah my grandfather who I spent a majority of my time with a child raised me to love two teams. Alabama Football and Kentucky Basketball, AKA rooting for dUKe in basketball would have been like rooting against Alabama when they played Texas.

I was pulling for Duke. I was raised in BAMA, well Gadsden, AL. I now live in Hillsborough, NC. I am 15 minutes to Duke campus, and less than 15 minutes to UNC. So, I am right in the middle of the basketball country. I feel for NC State. They are only a little over a half hour drive from Duke / Carolina, and they are as bad as Auburn. Actually, they remind me a lot of the barn too :). Close to culture, but still just agriculture :).

I've never cared for Krzyzewski. He's always appeared to be two--faced to me. Watch him on those rare occasions when a call goes against Duke, the look of rage on his face is downright evil looking. His sense of entitlement is such that he acts as if his Dookies can do no wrong and even if they do, they shouldn't be called for it. And please don't anyone tell me that he's just working the officials. I understand that's part of coaching, but I can't get that evil look out of my mind. That's not contrived, it's right there to see and I have never seen that same kind of look on any other coach, even Bobby Knight.

Then there's those AmExp commercials which he has the gall to insist that they offer no recruiting advantages for him and his program. Yeah, right. Besides, if he's gonna do commercials, wouldn't it be more fitting if he were advertising cheese?

Anybody But Duke: The Case for Rooting Against the Blue Devils in the Final Four

This is a blog that has lots of interesting things written about Duke/Coach K, which I wasn't aware of.
That's really a trash article. Nothing personal at you, jangalang. I like you. I've just seen similiar crap about our beloved Alabama. If you go out of your way to hate someone, you can always find a reason.

Personally, I hold Coach K at the highest esteem. He built a great program. Most of us know his accomplishments, so I'll skip that and just say IMO he is the Bear Bryant of college basketball. People say awful things about the Bear too. I just ignore them. Unfortunately, hate is a byproduct of success.

Most of his 'evidence' was..."look at them, they are nasty fans", and "this one fan wrote this letter, therefore I hate them." Reminds me of just diatribes I've read from Auburn fans.

Even the innuendo about paying players was sketchy and very one-sided. If you're gonna make an accusation, present proof or be silent.

No offense taken, guys. :)

Honestly, I put this link out there knowing it was just a blog from a Duke hater. But, I was always under the impression that Coach K equaled perfection on and off the court. IF some of the accusations were true, my opinion of him would be different. Just planting seeds, I guess...

BTW, you know it's the offseason when we're discussing Duke basketball on the football board of the National Champions!
